Any planning on moving to Texas realize that it is the most polluted state in the USA?
Amount of Green House Gases Released - 1st
· Amount of Toxic Chemicals Released
into Water -1st
· Amount of Toxic Chemicals Released
into Air-4th[
· Amount of Recognized Cancer-Causing
Carcinogens Released into Air-1st
· Amount of Recognized Cancer-Causing
Carcinogens Released into Water-7th
· Number of Clean Water Permit Violations-1st
· Number of Environmental and
Civil Rights Complaints -1st
· Number of Hazardous Waste Spills-2nd
· Amount of Hazardous Waste Generated-1st

This is why all the companies are relocating here...they can spew out at will what they wish.......the us navy paid a contractor to incinerate toxins into the Houston air....but jobs are what its all about...whats breathing a few fumes if those paychecks keep coming?
As an aside, Texas has the lowest percent of people with health insurance......when it rains, it pours, evidentally...

Ah yes, how clever of you to wax your moral superiority about what a filthy state Texas is without any regard for why that might be -- such as the fact that it is the epicenter of the nation's energy industry that makes your life cushy and care-free enough to sit at your computer terminal and bash Texas. If you're unwilling to accept the tradeoff that comes with the prosperity of living in the energy belt, hop on the interstate, press the accelerator and don't look back.
By the way, way to provide a source for your heady claims. Did you bother to find out if those figures are per-capita and/or per square mile to maybe provide a little context? Or is that too much work for you?

scongress1234 is obviously an activist-type with an axe to grind. What ISN'T SAID in that post is actual numbers, compared to the past. Why not, scongress1234? With the lack of quantification, "1st" "2nd", "7th" and so on is all but meaningless. Great reductions in pollution, and todays exceedingly clean air is NOT expressed in that flawed post. The states have to rank out somehow, regardless how clean thing really are.

scongress1234, I thought you were all about how we shouldn't be paying attention to the "top ten" type rated lists? Or is it only when they say good things about Austin, and we should pay attention to them when they say bad things? (In other words, when they support your viewpoint, we should pay attention, but we should think they're rubbish when they don't.)

Texans, don't take it so personally. We're all breathing polluted air, eating fish full of mercury, et all. Well, I don't eat fish, but most people do. If you love Texas, don't let the ratings of pollution bother you. Who cares anyway? In a perfect world, it would be nice to live without pollution, but that isn't going to happen.
Of course CA leads Texas in polluted air. I don't have a problem "talking trash" about my beloved state. If it's a fact, accept it; don't deny it.
Not too long ago, I did some research about pollution but for the life of me, I can't remember where I read that Texas does have the highest rate of mercury pollution in the country. Some other state will have the highest this, another the highest that, and on and on.
The links below show Texas', California's, and the whole country's air quality and as one can see, lots of Texas is still unpolluted. I know it's not only air that is considered in pollution, but here is a start.
Texas Air Quality Map
California Air Quality Map
Here's a link on coal plant pollution. How sad that the lovely Appalachian region is full of such emissions.

And another........UGH!!

So for what it's worth if anything, the whole country is in danger, not just TX and CA.

That wouldn't be a bad idea, but I think a better idea would have been for this country to be left to the Native Americans and the rest of us should have stayed where we belonged.

And so I googled it. Actually there is no answer.
If ranked according to EPA superfund sites: First place New Jersey has 115 EPA superfund sites, California and Pennsyavannia are tied for second with 93, and in third place with 86, New York.
According to the Waterloo Courier, Iowa is the most poluted state.
According to the American Lung Assc, California is the most poluted state. I guess they never been to Nevada where you can smoke anyplace you please.
According to the CityMayors Environment, Pittsburg is the most polluted city.
Forbes Magazine lists West Virginia as the most polluted state.
According to the EPA, New Jersey is the most polluted hands down because every single state east of the Rockies ship their toxic waste there.
According to USA Today, ALL California beaches are the most polluted in the country.
According to the Tulsa World Report, Oklahoma has the worst polluted fresh water lakes in the country.
So you see....it depends on what report you are reading. There are as many answers to this question as there are articles.
Strange thing though. I found almost nothing on pollution in Texas except for its most famous resident who has polluted this whole country.
Overall I vote NJ as the most polluted. As a kid my dad used to say the Passaic River had the worlds largest petroleum reserves. We used to throw rocks in the river and it didn't even splash. I can remember all the tampons washing up on the beaches along with the hypodermic needles and the medical waste. All floating from the NY Fresh Kills Landfill.
Texas is clean as can be. Maybe some pollution in the Galveston shipping terminals but that is it !

We are the 2nd biggest state in the lower 48 and one of the most populous. It is logical then that we would at least be the 2nd biggest producer of emissons and waste. Combine this with all of the energy production, refinieries, ect.. and it is no surprise. Or would you think Rhode Island is the #1 polluter. Your arguement is detroyed.
