i am curious-what kind of work do you do that would bring you to Dalhart? where would you be moving from?
i know some folks dont have many good things to say, but it is all about what you like. personally, i see beauty in the panhandle geography, i love tumbleweeds, wind, dusty plains etc. i had even considered moving there-had plenty of job opportunities in Amarillo, Pampa and Dalhart.
all i really know about Dalhart is the XIT Ranch-google it to read about its history-it's a big outfit.
i am sure that if you have a pioneer spirit, are adventurous, and can appreciate the beauty of the panhandle, and small town safe quiet slowpaced living, friendly down home folks, you will love it!
good luck. keep us up to date.

Default I lived in Dalhart for a bit

I lived in Dalhart for a couple of years. I moved there from Idaho. The weather can be a challenge if you are not used to sudden changes. The wind blows alot and with it comes the dust. No rain for quite awhile makes for daily dusting if you are a clean freak. I saw some fantastic thunder storms and made it a ritual to keep the local channel on to watch for severe weather watches and warnings. We didn't ever get a tornado but one bounced over us to hit the town 35 miles away. Slab foundation house left me wondering where to go in the event a weather emergency. It can be really cold, hot, snowy, ice and some rain. That can be in the same day! The people are nice but I had my purse stolen right out of my hand in broad daylight in the middle of the supermarket parking lot full of people. I lived in Idaho my whole life and never locked my front door so this was a shock. We still have a house and shop in Dalhart and my dad still lives there but we have moved to California for work. There are a few good resturants in town and they now have a drive through coffee shop that serves up some great drinks. Fresh produce is a challenge to find. Dalhart is an agricultural area so you will be greeted by feedlot fragrances every now and then. Overall Dalhart is a nice town but it is in the middle of nowhere and it is over an hour to Amarillo for decent shopping. Now Dumas which is 35 miles away towards Amarillo has a nice Mexican resturant call Chica Blanca that serves up a great chocolate burrito. If you get a chance you should try it. Now you shouldn't have any trouble finding someplace to live. There is a ton of places for sale

I actually live in Dalhart. We've only lived here since May 2007, moving from Clovis, NM. We came here for a better job oppurtunity offer my husband received at Hilmar Cheese. I'm only 25, but have 3 small kids, all under the age of 5. Well, almost 5 years old. I wouldn't mind some new friends close to my age. Anyone up for the challenge? Lol
