That makes 2 of us who are simple math experts. I'm not sure either what what s/he meant either about wondering who was born before 1980.

Yep, I remember the summer of 1980 well. :-) I was in elementary school, and we lived in Longview,TX. My brother and I went to the local high school swimming pool nearly every day that summer. I remember hating to even get out of the water to walk to the diving boards or anything b/c the concrete burned my feet so bad! That summer was brutal to me as a kid---I can only imagine what it was like for adults who had to work outside like some of you have written about.

Cool 1980?

That was my first year as a welder helper in West TX. But to tell the truth I don't remember it being any hotter than the rest. As a helper or welder in Texas in the summer it always hot. Of course we where young then just swamp coolers in the house. They actually seem to work then. Now I'm so used to the central air can't imagine going back to that. I will admit thought I'm older and softer (a little) now.

It was 105 deg. at DFW Airport over the weekend.

When I go on weather.com to see what the past week's temps. were, they show the previous day's record highs. Often, the site indicates the record temp. occurred in 1980.

I was sent to summer camp in northern New Mexico for 8 weeks that summer. I remember the letters from home.

Default The Heat Is On

Today is a reminder of what happened in 1980. At D/FW International, it was 107 as of 6 pm.

Of course, I love turning my AC up full blast. It's what I live for!

Actually on this day in 1980 it was 102. Today beat the record of 105 in 1998.

The last time DFW reached 107 was on July 18, 2006.

It is not uncommon for North Texas to reach these high temperatures.

1980 stays in everyone's mind more because there were so many days of triple digits, 69 to be exact.

So far this summer, Dallas has had 23 triple digit days, but it isn't over yet. Yippee!!

My dogs have had it. They do not like being a part of the "dog days of Texas summers."

Is it too early to hope that 2009 will have a 2007 summer?
