Everytime I visit Abilene, I make sure I go to Hastings, they have a great Western section of books. I also make sure I go to Harold's BBQ, or the Dixie Pig to eat. Its a given.

I wish I could move to Abilene, I would love to retire there in 10 years or so. But the move would put my wife and I farther away from family and make visits harder. That is important to us.

Cowboybootnut,
Is the Dixie Pig still open? I drove by there not long ago and it looked closed to me. I could be totally wrong about that, though.

When it comes to books, there's B&N, Borders, and everyone else. Luckily we have Amazon.com today too. I can live about anywhere with the Internet and satellite tv!
We do have Books-A-Million in Abilene, and I really like it.

Our Hastings, by the way, is expanding into a huge place right across the street from the present one. They are adding better coffee and tea areas and drive through convenience. I believe it will give any Barnes and Noble a run for its money.

It is open for breakfast and lunch. They have taken off this week and maybe next for vacation/holiday. I hear they do that every year. One of my best friends lives in Abilene, and he gives me a "Pig" report frequently.

Great breakfast.

I eat at Dixie Pig every Saturday with friends. It is still open. They close the first week of July every year and give all of their employees vacation. They will re-open on July 7. Barbara and Lisa need their rest!

No problem.

I have been there on Saturdays for breakfast with my Abilene pal. I love their Pig Omlette. Sandy usually waits on us. From what I heard, there use to be many Dixie Pigs in Texas, and they were open 24 hours a day.

Sorry to get off topic, but when I think of Abilene, I think of eating good.

Are they related to the Pig Stand diners? I know there's one of those in Houston.
