We used to have the same problem in Abilene. The old guard wanted to limit growth because they owned the businesses here and controlled the city. Growth brings in big box stores, malls, and other entities that are not controlled by local people. Sometime when we passed about 100,000 people, that attitude mostly changed. There are still a few folks who despise the growth and want us to be a small town.

Target is closing the old store in Killeen and just keeping the new one in Harker Heights open, same with the Circuit city.

I wish I would've seen the original post a few months ago, i worked at Target part time.
I personally think Killeen will become a rat hole. So many stores are packing up and leaving for Harker Heights, the latest being Old Navy. All the new restaurants are in Harker Heights. The nicer Walmart is in HH. HH will grow and prosper, and Killeen will do the opposite. Copperas Cove will stay kind of country. HH-Belton-Temple might grow into each other, but I think they will leave Killeen behind, with Fort Hood. And even together, they will in no way be big enough to ever be another DFW.
I do live in Killeen, btw.

How about we name it WTK or KTW ? We could have a drawing to see which initials come 1st.

No, the Waco Airport would be expanded and renamed Waco International Airport (George W. Bush International to match IAH was scrapped a few years ago. ).

Isn't Beverly Hills an incorporated City? There's no way Waco could get them unless they agree to a merger like Houston and Houston Heights.
Houston needs a mayor who is aggressive in annexation. I think the next mayor should appeal to Houston patriotism but needs to be careful in what areas to annex. (The ulterior motive is that the council members are trying to keep it very Democratic and don't want to risk a power shift to the R's if they annexed the suburbesque fringes of the ETJ.)

This area could actually LOSE population do to the down sizing of the military that will be taking place. And gee, just how would the area gain 5,000,000 people before the end of times, unless God waits for several 1,000 years to return?

i doubt our post will downsize. it is the largest military installation in the world. if anything, BRAC closures might consolidate smaller posts, and bring battalions/units/divisions and incoporate them here.
