Boerne-Kerrville-Fredricksburg Comparison
My husband and I are considering moving to the San Antonio area from El Paso. I am from the area, but have been gone too long to probably recognize the place. I always loved the German Hill Country (as it was called 30+ years ago) and would like some feedback on the differences between Boerne, Kerrville, and Fredricksburg, if someone could articulate them. Any comparison-contrast (if there is a noticeable distinction) would be greatly appreciated. I will continue to work; my spouse is retired. By the way, schools are not a concern since we have no children. Thanking any and all in advance. Posting is the next best thing to actually going to each community and talking to them in person. This will be the LAST move for us and want it to be as informed as possible.

Good luck with your move. I cannot give advice but I love the area you mentioned. We've been there a few times on vacation. Beautiful

My choice out of all three would be Boerne. It's very close to SA but has its small town charm with the main street and all the shops but is also growing at a good rate and adding some nice amenities.

I live in SA and my folks have retired in Kerrville. They decided on Kerrville cause they love the Hill country and Boerne was just to close to SA. Its well on its way to becoming just another part of SA. They felt like Kerrville was far enough away to afford them the small town feel they wanted but close enough to SA to get to a good fancy dinner and the airport to go on vacations. Its also large to have a hospital and they semi teach at the college there. Also a lively little social circle with some very interesting folks if thats your style. Fredericksburg was just to small, they did not want to be in a place we everyone knew everyones business and were afraid of that occuring there. Hope this helps some

We live in Fredericksburg. Kerrville is more of a city feeling. Here there is always something going on. Some kind of event. Every town has nosybodies and I did not let this bother me. We belong to the American Legion . My hubby is also retired while I still work.We enjoy living here.I don't know about Boerne.

Neddy, you make an excellent argument for Kerrville. Would that be within commuting distance from SA? We were in SA a couple of years ago for about a week and looked around, and it seemed like Kerrville was quite some distance from SA. In reference to Boerne, could it become (be incorporated into) SA? Boerne is nice but the taxes in the area are just TOO DARN HIGH!!! Will they be better (not as high) in Kerrville? Again, thanks!

Boerne can not be incorporated into San Antonio. In fact, no other incorporated city can be incorporated into another city, only unincorporated county land. Look at a map of San Antonio and you will see several incorporated cities that are surrounded by San Antonio.

Texasborn, the taxes are going to be high almost where ever you go around here! (I am talking property taxes) since there is so much growth got to pay somewhere I guess. SA really does not have large burbs around it. Takes my dad and stepmom about 45 mins to get here from Kerrville. All of their doctors, hairdressers are still here. They can get the grandkids when they want but if they don't want to see anyone in the family can still use the excuse of "the drive" and not feel to guilty ( i know they do this I called them on it one time)

I live in Fredericksburg and have been here for almost 2 years. I like living here as far as the quietness and the beauty. As far as things going on or trying to find something to do, is a different story unless there is a festival or something going on. Some of the folks I have met are friendly and some of them are cliqueish and unfriendly. Find the right folks and you are set in that area. Not many good jobs around here. Most folks own there own businesses. A lot of people retire here. Fredericksburg lacks good restaurants.
Kerrville has more of a social thing going on with people and San Antonio has more things to do and restaurants to go to.
