I have some friends from England who will be renting a cottage in
Comfort & want to visit San Antonio while they are there. They've
heard that traffic & parking in the SA area are pretty bad so were
wondering about bus transportation. I found a pretty limited
Greyhound schedule with a stop on Highway 87(?) but wondered if
there were any local bus lines that service this route. Any info on
that would be greatly appreciated.

Use the Kerrville Bus Company. It is in Kerrville, which is just 20 miles further up I-10 from Comfort. They should have a Comfort stop,or you could drive up to Kerrville and ride into SA from there.I would be very thorough in checking out my routes and stops using the local SA bus service. There are parts of SA that a stranger doesn't want to get lost in.But the local SA bus service may have a tourist orientated bus service that won't go into the wrong areas.Something to look into.I once didn't make a turn where I was supposed to coming out of the Riverwalk area and quickly got into some very undesireable neighborhoods. The Kerrville Bus Co station in SA looked to me to be in a good part of town judging from it's location, but I don't have first hand knowledge of that.
