Fried chicken skin is just nasty!! If I have to eat at a nasty place like KFC or Church's Chicken, it always gets skinned!
LOL Cathy, I luv you to pieces (even if we totally disagree about the "South vs. West thingy!).

Actually though, what you described in terms of fried chicken was exactly how the BEST I ever had was made. My grandmothers who did in fact skin the chicken, the season, flour, and fry it up!

Oh man, if there is ANYTHING I would love to bring to this potential gathering it would be some of the fried chicken my granmaw made!

The feeling is mutual, LOL!!!

Isn't it wonderful like that?? My mother makes it this way....but neither of my grandmothers did. They left the skin on...yuuuuck. They were also both pretty lousy cooks, so I guess both of my parents learned how to cook well in self-defense, LOL!!

Default Watermelon and cantaloupe...

The recent mention of watermelon and cantaloupe is one of those things that embarrases the hell out of me in terms of not listing it in earlier polls!

What traditional Texas gathering would NOT include them? With lots of salt, of course.

Speaking of watermelon, I was in McDade today doing some genealogy research and they were having their watermelon festival. We stopped in and had a few wedges

Well, now that you mention it, honeydew/cantaloupe/watermelon chunks with poppyseed dressing IS pretty tasty....or just plain!!

Yum. I may hate the summer heat, but you can't beat the produce bounty.

But having said that, it has always been harder for me to pick out a sweet honeydew, as opposed to the other two.

Default Here is what I want to know...Hee Hee

Here is what I want to know...

Who is going to grind the homemade ice-cream??? Hee Hee

Seems like, on a previous thread, most of us mentioned family reunions and such where this boring chore and task was relegated to the kids (of which we all remember being in this realm).

Maybe that is why no one has brought up making homemade ice cream...?
