You may, but MANY MANY Texans and Californians don't.
Incidentally, I don't disagree over the illegal immigrant issue - I came to
the US as a legal immigrant myself many years ago and frown on what is
happening here. I especially frown on the in-state tuition that both
California and Texas provide to illegal immigrants in colleges/universities.
Nevertheless, I know why this will not change easily, due to reasons expressed above.

Of course Texas has problems, and of course no place is utopia, but right now California has more than most states. Add to that the state has changed so much in the past 20 or so years, even friends and family we have still living there say, it is so sad.

Of course I don't know whether she has had ill-fortune - at least she claims to have prospered. But in reading her rather unlettered rant, it
is clear that she is unhappy with her circumstances, which she all blames on California. Usually, when people write so caustically, without any
any real critical reasoning, they have some kind of issues to deal with.
As to the rest of your post, change all depends on your perspective. While the economic situation currently is unfortunate, that too will
change again at some point, as it has in the past. As for most social changes in California, I am in favor of it. The US has much to
catch up to with other Western countries regarding social issues. I suspect many conservatives such as yourself do not agree, but that is
again a personal opinion to which you are entitled.

The truth is Californians don't care really care about any other city or state outside their own because they have everything. In LA, the only other city people talk about is NY...Texas is just in the middle of nowhere to them.

There is also a tremendous amount of masturbatory dialogue that goes on between Texans. I had a friend who relocated from the east coast back to Dallas and people, constantly would tell her "welcome back!!! I bet you're glad to be back." It's so obnoxious. Texans constantly telling Texans how great where they live is.
I will say this - I've never heard someone in LA have a 15 minute conversation with someone else from LA about how great LA is. Of course, Texans often think, "that's because LA sucks." No, it's because LA doesn't need an introduction. LA isn't insecure about itself. LA doesn't bother itself with endless verbal diarrhea about what a great place it is.
People from LA and California don't dislike Texas and they don't dislike Texans. But they secretly laugh at the endless diatribe that goes along between Texans about how awesome their home "republic" is....then they go back to Los Angeles and resume their indifference about the lone star state.

That was the most disturbing aspect about Texas. Having grown up in Southern California, racial diversity is not a big deal. You see interacial couples. You see people of all races hanging out. The mainstream culture in California involves so much diversity. In Texas, my wife would often receive strange looks if she told them she was a vegetarian. They servers and cooks just thought it was too much to ask to remove meat from certain dishes. And Texans were very preoccupied with race. In California, no one asks what your race and ethnic origin is upon first meeting but in Texas, that was so normal. People in California are not that religious and even if they are raised with a certain faith, attending church is not a big deal. In Texas, they would ask if you are Christian and what Church you attend. And then in Texas, everyone was separated. In California, there are so many Asian and Hispanics that are a part of the mainstream. In Texas, I noticed Hispanics hung out with each other, Asians formed their own group and so on. It was really weird

That is because no one in California has to justify to themselves why it's great. They know its a great place to live. They don't care about Texas. The people from Cali who move to Texas are ones who have no choice and lost their job or can't afford to live there. Most of those people wouldn't move there if they had a choice. And everyone in the country is moving to Texas for one simple reason: jobs! People do what they need to do to survive but that doesn't mean they want to live there.

I have to ask where do you hear Texans bragging and going on and on about this state, because I hardly hear it? And please don't say on this forum.

Dallas, Texas. I will say I never heard it in Austin or El Paso, the other two Texas cities I've spent somewhat significant time in, but in Dallas it was pretty darn constant and nauseating.

I think you may be letting your political views interfer here a little. Ok, you claim this has nothing to do with it, but if it didn't you wouldn't be making that statement. From what I gather, the majority of the people in Texas do love GB. I am not talking about his ability to run the country, I am talking about him as a person..And, yes, Laura was born in Texas. I have read several bios on her.

There's a definite difference between a Texan and a southerner. I can, as a Texas woman, recognize Laura as another of a particular type. GW I don't really recognize as either Texan or southerner.
