Those who know they are the best don't receive any thrill telling everyone else because they are aware everyone already is aware they are the best. Only the posers felt they needed attention.
If Texans were genuinely proud then they wouldn't feel compelled to brag. For someone who attended a top medical school, I'm suprised that concept fails to resonate with you.
|
So your basically saying that because you have enough free time in your medical profession and are not at the top of the ranks in your area of expertise you have enough time to get online and involved in internet "drama" about how horrible Texas is compared to California.........
LOL!!!
If Californians were indeed proud of their own state and LIKED where they lived they would not have the time to get on the internet and bash a state that most of them have never even been to. Hence the numerous posts by some saying they would pick hell over Texas.

azriverfan, here's a clue: everyone isn't just like you. They don't do things for the same reasons that you would be doing them if you did them.
You do realize that feeling the necessity to persistently run down an entire state is an even clearer indicator of feelings of inferiority, don't you?
|
I agree. If this person was so great in their field and happy where they were in life they would not feel the need to continue to bash and put down others and the state others chose to call home. THAT is the definition of an inferiority complex.
Heck, he doesn't even get the clue that some company in INDIA probably picked up on the "Don't Mess With Texas" and started printing bumper stickers. Which by the way, I don't even see ONE A DAY around Dallas. Which is a huge metro area with a lot of cars.

The antonym of pride is humility.
Therefore, I have to disagree that bragging and pride are not synonymous. It is something I learned...oh so many years ago.

You do know that continuing to tell others how sinful they are is a sin, don't you? It is actually a not so pretty trait and makes one look rather...... uhm, that "holier than thou" thing coming thru is just as sinful and could be considered a form of "pride".

I am not telling anyone of their sinful nature; we're all sinners and that is something we all know. Holier than thou I am not and proud, I am not, but I see that what I wrote may appear as such. I only mentioned it because a lot of people aren't aware what the meaning of pride truly is. I'll retract the deadly sin part since it was offensive to some.
The point is that pride is synonymous with conceit, egotism, vanity, and a lofty and often arrogant assumption of superiority in some respect.

All attributes that a few posters from OUTSIDE of Texas have exhibited.
How was church this morning?
Unfortunately, one of the a/c units for the main sanctuary was not working today but it was still a pretty large crowd. Our SS class was nice and cold. Too cold for some but not me.

We all, in every state, act poorly at times and I guess we all have our reasons as to why we're that way.
I didn't make it to church today because I was stricken at 4:30 a.m. with a migraine. I hate those things.
I am leaving shortly to see a dear friend who is dying from cancer. He doesn't have much longer with us, and I'm devastated. His children will be there, and I hate it for them. We all watched their mom die of cancer 12 years ago. She was my very best native Texas friend, and I miss her dearly. She and I were two peas in a pod.

You can attempt to attack my credibility in attempt to defend your state. Likewise, I'm not going to waste time doing the same with regard to you. I have nothing against you and I'm sorry you feel the need to attack me personally. This is just another example of how Texans are obsessed with their state. You have so much pride in your state that you have to go to great lengths to discredit me. LOL.. Why can't some of you just admit that Texans have a reputation for boasting about their state. I fail to see why that angers you so much. Is this really news to you?

LOL!!! No, I am FAR from angry. I just find it humorous that the very things you say about Texans are the exact same attributes you are exhibiting. You kept mentioning that we have some sort of inferiority complex yet the very definition of such is exactly the way your acting. Hence, the need to feel to come over to the Texas forums and dogpile about how bad or whatever negativity you have towards it and the people from here. Does THAT make sense? Or is it over your head. I was not "attacking" you. Your the one that feels the need to continue to find reasons why the state and the people here are somehow beneath you. We are just letting you know exactly how Texans and the state really is as your view is flawed. In your world if a place has mountains that do not contain snow and are within an hours drive of a heavily populated locale, they are not REAL mountains. Nevermind the altitude at which they stand . If a people are happy with the state in which they were born and don't feel the need to move they are somehow less of person than you deem worthy or whatever. You are showing a need to put down others and try to make attempts at showing them just how "bad" they are. THAT is the definition of someone with an inferiority complex.
I was simply using your own words about how the brightest in medical school that you experienced did not feel the need for "drama". But you seem to thrive on it as you can't just face the fact that you experienced a little time here in Texas and it did not agree with YOU personally. You can't let it go. It continues to feaster inside you. That is all. We don't mind that people come here and don't like it. No big deal at all. It is when someone experiences it for a short time and all of a sudden they are an expert on the area and feels the need to try and tell us exactly how it is when we know better. I'm not angry but it sure sounds like you are. What at, I don't have a clue.
You know, sometimes in life one just has to shake their head and realize some people will just never "get it". This is one of them for me for sure.
Have a fun day and enjoy bashing Texas and Texans

Here are some definitions of pride you left out:
A sense of one's own proper dignity or value; self-respect.
Pleasure or satisfaction taken in an achievement, possession, or association.
