I just finished crying my eyes out over my friend's condition. I controlled it well yesterday albeit while talking with his two daughters, we all shed quiet, if you will, tears. My son and their youngest brother were best friends while growing up...actually we were all neighbors for a while. They lost their oldest brother in 1980. He was 16 and electrocuted while putting up a CB antenna on top of their roof. Talk about heartbreak. I don't know how some people hold up with such tragedy in their lives.
If it weren't so bloomin' hot, I'd be outside exercising and working in the yard as a stress reliever. I thought getting up very early might help but when I stuck my head outside, I decided it wasn't worth risking some kind of heat-related illness.
I put myself in the middle of all the silliness on the forums. I have no one to blame but myself. For the life of me, I don't understand why. My guy friend, a native Texan and a wonderful and totally different that what I consider a typical Texan, basically told me I was silly for falling into such a ridiculous trap. Believe it or not, he is so not Texan, I don't know how he did it. LOL!!! I love that guy.
I trust the chore albeit excitement is coming along quite well.
To stay on topic, I will say that right now, my old city (Burbank) in CA is somewhat like Texas. It's pretty warm out there right now, but not nearly as bad as it is here. My friends are complaining though.

Wow Canine*Castle...I can not imagine losing a child at only age 16!!! (remember when WE were 16 ? We thought we were soooo grown up!!!) Tragic, freak accident you are there to help this family get through this new sadness....they are fortunate to have you, and you them...
Yeah...as you probably know, I put myself in the middle of it too....but at the end of the day, even though I am sure we p*** some people off, we help others too....and I for one can attest to the wonderful information I have been given the last 2 + years...there are many decisions we were able to make from 2k miles away, with no basis of experience, from what we derived from this site. I intend to "pay it forward" and continue posting once we are all tucked in with our move to Conroe!
Excited, yet exhausted packing & planning...scheduled our moving van, vehicle transport, hotels along the way (called each one to verify 3 fuzzies okay!!) But as of this moment, we are 9 weeks and a wakeup til we are Texas bound!!! Whoooo Hooooooooo!!!
You are from Burbank??? That is where my son was born!! (Saint Joseph's Hospital, accross from Disney Studios....I have always reminded him that that is why he is a "little Goofey"
Take care...really...

It's a small world after all. Both my children were born at St. Joseph's and I graduated from John Burroughs High School. I lived in Burbank from the age of 14 months until I was nearly 29, so Burbank will always be my "hometown." Heaven forbid and should I even say, but I was born in NY (that happens to be where my parents lived), so I guess I'm a native New Yorker, whatever that means. Hahaha!!
I didn't know my friends when their son was killed but shortly thereafter, and when my son and their younger son started kindergarten, we became inseparable. My friend who died never got over losing him and my friend who is now dying never did either. He blamed himself. The sisters still talk about their older brother with tears in their eyes. Does one ever get over losing a beloved child? I think not.
Yes, 16 was quite an age of thinking we were all grown up. He had just gotten his driver's license on his birthday two days before his death. He was a wonderful young man from a very loving family.
I don't mean to irritate people on the forum, but I do speak what I feel, what I've learned, and what I know. Saying that, I guess everyone speaks the same things, feelings, learning, and knowledge. Much of what we read is opinions, but much of it as well is knowledge and if you will, observations.
Well, I'll be thinking about you and yours as you continue all that involves moving. Have you ever been to the area? I'm sure you've posted that information, but I don't remember reading it.
Take care of the three precious ones and each other. I wish you all the best as you embark on your new adventure of becoming Texans.

My brother-in-law was a great guy but when it came to Texas and everything about it, he was the same way. Thinking back, he'd even say things that weren't so just to make everything right. He was very prideful and it wasn't becoming. Sometimes it drove my sister crazy. I don't want to call it lying but he definitely said things that didn't quite "fit the picture" if that makes sense. I think he honestly believed these things though. He's in a better place now, and he knows it.

Do keep in mind that Sam and the boys were not Texans so if you must give credit, give credit to those who earned it and the states from which they came. Even Stephen, the Father of Texas, was not a Texan.

OK question for native Texans:
How many times did you hear this verse from your parents and grandparents?
<< Proverbs 16:18 >>
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
At my house it was usually just shortened to 'pride goeth before a fall'.
So I think most of us know the difference!
Sorry to hear about your friend CC.

Hi Canine*Castle
Yes, we have been to the Houston area several times in the last couple of years...looking for a home to purchase...contracting to have one built, visually inpecting the lot after clearing for our intended plans, choosing upgrades & colors, preclosing inspections, closing, meeting the tenants, post Ike visit, and pretty much just general kickin' around our future "digs"
June 2008 we brought back a souvenier from Willis (Montgomery County).....
MEET MISS ROSIE
Her AKC name is "Miss Yellow Rose Budd of Texas"
If you click on the picture, it pops up a bit larger
This is actually a pic from when she was 9 weeks old, and a whopping 1.8 pounds...
Now at 1 yr 2 mths old.....she is a "strapping" 4.80 pounds...
...my more current pics are on my computer @ my home office...this one was the only one on my office computer....
