2. Dallas ranks just a few spots behind Houston on the pollution list, so Houston is hardly the only TX city with a pollution problem

Not trying to start anything, just correcting the statement which was a little misleading.

Texas is like a great big freshly baked pumpkin pie & Californians are wanting a slice of it.

Our economy is flourishing while theirs is in a recession.

I like both states. I find California best for vacations and Texas best for every day living.

Texas has a balanced budget while the State of California relies on loans from the federal government to make payroll.

My thoughts, having lived in Texas from '93-'07 and California '07-present.
  • Both states have large, diverse, world-class cities.
  • California has a much greater variation of climates, topography.
  • Both states' cultures are strongly influenced by Mexican culture. California is also heavily influenced by East Asian cultures.
  • California's government is dysfunctional and bankrupt, whereas the Texas gov't (dysfunctional to a much smaller degree) has a sizeable budget surplus. TX doesn't provide as many social services as CA, which is probably a large factor.
  • The cost of living in CA is ridiculously high. I've found food prices to be on par with central TX, but inflated housing prices, taxes, etc take a huge chunk out of one's wallet.
  • In the large CA cities, $200k will buy you a studio or 1-bedroom condo in a decent neighborhood. In the large TX cities, $200k will probably buy you a house.
  • Both are economic powerhouses, with CA's GSP (GDP for states) of >$1.8 trillion and TX GSP > $1.1 trillion. These two possess the largest economies among US states.
  • Both states have good public university systems. Texas has the UT and A&M systems, California has the UC and CSU systems.
  • Good BBQ doesn't exist in SoCal. Neither does Blue Bell Ice Cream (someone send me a few gallons please )

Here is one I don't think I saw mentioned....both CA and Texas have earthquakes.

Just heard about one that hit TX/OK area on the radio so I thought I'd toss it in.

Texas earthquakes are no big deal, but California earthquakes are likely to wreak major havoc.
