we have beer barns everywhere here...and now we have two "drive thru daquiri" barns....yes, you can get a "daquiri" to go-they give it to you in a styrofoam cup, with a lid on it and straw taped down, so it's not an open container..until ya....well!

It was cool, the way you could just drive through and pick up what you wanted without ever getting out of the truck. I've seen other drive through beer stores like this, as a matter of fact, the first one I ever saw was located in Arlington.

For many years New Mexico allowed drive-thrus. In recent years Santa Fe finally realized that alcohol and and a steering wheel are probably not a good match and outlawed the practice Statewide. My thought is that one should be able to at least walk into a bar before being allowed to drive away from one.

The Beer Barn I used to go to didn't serve an open product, you just drove up and purchased your beer or whatever but it was in a closed container, it was more of a time saver then anything.
I know for a fact the one in Burleson, Texas got alot of attention from the police for that very reason.

I think NM got rid of all drive-thrus as I don't see any any more even in the wide-open spaces of eastern New Mexico. Back when the State had only 500,000 people spread out over its 122,00 square miles, a tipsy driver on one of the State's many narrow roads could usuually damage no more than their own tires with Opuntia thorns when they ran off the road. With the State's tremendous population growth in recent years politicians have received a lot of pressure regarding alcohol related traffic deaths and injuries. The most famous crash was perhaps that of Gordon House in 1992.
Several weeks ago I pulled a car-hauler trailer on TX State Hwy 94 to Triinity County from Angelina County for first time in forty-odd years. As a teenager growing up in the then-dry Angelina County in the 1960s we called going over to wet Trinity County, "Going across the River." I was surprised that the very narrow, and dangerous, Trinity River bridge is the same narrow killer it was in the 1960s. One would think a Governor who can find the money to build a superhighway for Mexico could find the money to rebuild the old dangerous Trinity River Bridge on 94.

Yeah buddy, one would certainly be prone to think that. I like your tongue in cheek humor. I guess you could call this to our dear old governor's attention, you know he'd be interested in learning about this.
