Belle,
It's not the TV. The damn dogs leave the fridge door open when they watch the old Shawna Twain videos. They get all excited, fall asleep, and realize the beer got warm. Then they turn the fridge down and get all grumpy when your King Ranch Chicken leftovers are not up to their taste.
Now if your dogs are females, they are all lathered up over George Strait. They are still drinking the beer but then they sit in the corner wondering why other male dogs don't look like George and pee and moan over older dogs like me with a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado.
At the end of the day Rosie O'Donnell starts babbling about gun control and the dogs find the TV controller and flip to the Food Channel to learn that kolatches and breakfast tacos are fattening. The dogs become even more upset, run outside, and leave your front door open, wondering why you don't put charizzo in the dog food.
You need to put those pups on Nutra-Systems. Sorry about your utility bills. Your utility saving will make your dogs thinner with a prettier coat of hair, saving you the expense of the Bosley Hair Clinic. Darn cheaper than Texas electric utilities.
Signed,

Take watts TV uses X hours per day X 31 days ÷ 1000 X electric rate to find out. You can find the wattage on the label on the back of the TV. I just checked and our 27" TV (4:3, flat tube style) uses 290 watts. If I left it on 18 hrs/day it would contribute roughly $24/mo towards my bill. That may be double if it were a burning-hot plasma TV. Lights & electronics can add up but not nearly as much as an AC unit, esp one that's not maintained & running properly.

OMG this has to be one of the most amusing posts i have read on here in a long time! Ha ha! I was wondering why the TV is on Food Network when I get home, cuz I always leave it on CMT or Animal Planet. And I was wondering why it seems like every time I come home, my Shiner Bock supply seems smaller. I think I need to hide the Shiner Bock in the deep freezer and put some Lonestar Beer in the icebox so they dont drink my expensive good beer.
P.S. I am sorry that you are dogless in Austin. Austin is one of the most dog friendly cities in the country. Why not go to your local humane society or shelter and adopt a dog?

thanks so much for explaining that. well, if it's just around 25-30 bucks a month or so, it's worth leaving the TV on, for the happiness of my dogs. i would hate to deprive them of their Animal Planet and CMT when i leave them home alone.

Gave me 12.6/kwh for 75226.
The bottom line folks is to cut down on your electric consumption or don't complain. Turn off the tvs, get CFL light bulbs, stop running the air conditioner at 60 degrees. If you don't want to do that then you better get your pocket book ready! The good thing is that no one forces you to use electricity (unlike taxes where you are forced to pay them). I know eletric rates work the same way as gasoline does. The people who are the biggest consumers of gasoline will complain nonstop about gasoline prices instead of just cut back. It wasn't until gasoline hit 4.50 gallon that a lot of people started saying, "You know, I can't afford to drive this 10MPG vehicle anymore." The only reason they started to cut back was because it was hurting their wallets. The same thing is going to happen to electricity. The age of cheap energy is OVER!

Dogs like enchiladas. If your feed them tamales, the metabolism slows them down. Plus tamales with chicken are cheaper than anything with ground beef. If you feed your dog enchiladas he / she then wants jalapenos and wants something beyond Lone Star.
I'm just trying to be an internet dog bubba. That guy in LA doesn't know Texas and I've never, ever, ever whispered to a dog.
You guys are a bunch of home economics failures!

I'm using Stream Energy. I'm locked in at 11.9 cents per KWh. I dread the day my contract expires (March 2009). Stream's lowest rate at the moment is 15.5 cents per KWh with 1 year contract. Month-to-month is 19.9 cents per KWh!!!
If you want to blame somebody for high electricity prices (and high energy prices in general) blame the people that won't let us explore for, and use, the natural resources we have. Coal, oil, natural gas, etc. Supply and demand. Energy supply is shrinking, energy demand is growing.
