I am planning to move their next summer.

Would love to see pictures from a "real" persons point of view - not a visitor bureau....know what I mean?

While it's not on the ground, www.maps.live.com (may not be able to link directly) has a bird's eye view function for Lubbock. Just go to "Locations," type in Lubbock, zoom in a few times, and go to a point of interest. Click "Bird's eye."

I am moving to Lubbock in August. Just wondering how the medical care is there as my husband has some medical issues. Thanks for any advice you can give us.

Lubbock has a large medical community.......and Texas Tech University's School of Medicine is right there in the middle of the city.

Sorry, don't have any pics. I was in a bad dust storm a few years ago, with chairs and trees flying by me, trying to get home! It is always windy in the Hub City!! Climate is fairly dry, not nearly as humid as most parts of Texas. The landscape is very flat, few trees, really not much to take pics of....is cotton and cattle country.

There are two very good medical systems, Covenant Medical and UMC (University Medical Center) allied with Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. The Texas Tech campus is very nice, very large and growing. The population is over 200K, so you will find most of what you need here for daily living, etc. I would like to see more bookstores and health food stores, more grocery stores (United Market has a near monopoly) and more choice in department stores. I think there are four WalMarts and two Targets if you like those. And fairly sure there is still a KMart. Downtown trying to make a comeback, don't know if it is happening though, time will tell. Still kind of a backward place, but there is much new construction going on to date. Progress...

The weather here is either God-awful, or beautiful. There doesn't seem to be an in-between. The dirt does blow about 4-5 days a year on the average, and when it does it's brutal. These usually occur in late winter and early spring.

The best time of year to be in Lubbock is in the summer and fall months. For example, right now it's 86 degrees with a very comfortable dew point of 61. This with a fairly light breeze of 15 mph. You can actually go outside on your patio during the summer and enjoy nice warm evenings. It's just too damn hot in the eastern third of the state to do this during summer months. Late September and October usually bring awesome weather as well. It starts to get a little cold by late November though.
