I'll toss in my recomendation for Lubbock. Big enough to be a city, but still feels small. Traffic is non-existent most places, even during rush hours.

Have you already been down? I think visiting the cities will help you decide.

The original Sutphens were friends of my grandparents when they lived in Borger during the '40's....good people.
If Sutphins is gone, Dyers has very similar barbecue and a very similar menu. They are in Amarillo, Pampa, and Wichita Falls, that I know of.

Thanks for all the info. To needsomeinfo: are there jobs in Lubbock? And no, I haven't been down yet. I'm hoping to make it out in late Aug or Sept. If I'm going to move this year I want to do it before winter. I'm shying away from the M/O area, I hear with all the yankees going down there for work there's a housing shortage. I'm not the type to live in a motel! Plus I think the location may not be for me. For some reason I'm drawn to the Ama area, I think it's just where I'm suppose to be....

Sutphens BBQ- never heard of it and I have been here for 5 years come Sept. Looking online- looks like the closed the Ama location in 1996.

Eliza- thanks, you didn't have to. I didn't expect anything.

I have lived in Lubbock for three months - I moved here from Minnesota after I got married due to my husband's new job. Anyway, I have not been to Amarillo or Midland/Odessa area, but I want to add that Lubbock as the WORST drivers I have ever had the experience of sharing the road with. So watch out if you move here as they don't pay attention to anything.

Actually, Dyer's pulled out of Wichita Falls a few years ago.

Worst drivers?? In Lubbock?? Surely, you must have had some bad luck or something. It can't possibly be any worse than Dallas or Houston. Give the locals a chance; I'm sure the place sometimes gets out-of-town visitors. Things happen.
