Default Sutphens BBQ Amarillo

I ate at Sutphens twice in the summer of 1978. They were THE greatest meals I ever ate!

i am in the Ft Hood area-between Lampasas and Gatesville, and very very happy here. my life turned around 180 degrees after escaping the one year hell tour in South Texas. couldnt be happier with my choice, and i have the best job in the world....living the dream

I wouldn't recommend moving to Odessa or Midland I noticed you said west texans were friendly thats true for Lubbock or Amarillo but not for Midland or Odessa.I moved here from the Lubbock area and cant believe the difference a 2 hour drive makes. The people here are rude they dont smile at strangers they dont greet you when you go to restraunts or other places. They barely even ackknowledge you anywhere you go.All the businesses are understaffed everywhere you go you're gonna be waiting a long time and usually get bad service.Everything is more expensive as well housing is very hard to find and housing is alot more expensive than Lubbock or Amarillo. Most of the apartments and houses are old and not worth the price they cost.Going to wal-mart is usually a bad experience because like I said everywhere is understaffed and if you go in the evening anytime between thrusday and monday you're gonna be in a long line waiting for a long time.My vote would be for you to move to Lubbock Amarillo would be my second choice.I moved here to Odessa because some of my family did and I can't wait to get out of here and move back to Lubbock.I didn't think it would be tht different from Lubbock but it is.Oh and on top of all that the drinking water here is disgusting it smells like lake water and it drys out your skin and hair.

I always love reading the post on how bad the M/O area is. I've lived here a little over a year and while there are definetely a lot of bad drivers and stores that are understaffed it really is a decent place to live. Pay rates here tend to be higher do to the shortage of available workers, there are some really nice places to live, lots of public parks, and there are friendly people here as well.

If you are moving due to allergies you are better off moving to the Santa Fe New Mexico area. Midland Odessa smell of Oil and Gas, Amarillo's housing is too expensive, Lubbock is great but we are bad for allergy sufferers.

well thats true now but only because of the boom there are alot of people going to work in the oil field and not other places right now and your not supposed to drink the water there any way i used to live there and everyone gets bottled water. i liked it in odessa and wish that i could move back but i just moved outside lubbock and it aint that bad here but watever you choose

Well if they built more apartments and houses more people could move here to fill the positions at the jobs that aren't in the oil field. They keep building businesses but I never see them building apartments or houses. In Lubbock and most other citys that are trying to grow theyre constantly building new apartments and houses along with new businesses.I guess the city planners in Odessa and Midland dont know that in order for a city to grow you have to attract more residents yeah theres jobs everywhere which they always emphasize but theres nowhere for new workers to live.

I have lived in MO and West Texas for over 45 years... All but 5 years of my life spent in Dallas (yuck). Amarillo has wind and cold in the winter (this would be my last pick of anywhere in Texas). I travel all over TX, OK, NM, LA, MS for my job in the oil industry. Lubbock has dust in Spring but great Medical facilities and education facilities (Texas Tech). Midland and Odessa has it's own brand of civiliztion, the people are great, Midland College and UTPB in Odessa. Housing here is a bit tough due to the O&G industry. Lubbck probably has more in the way of social life for any age group (my daughter and son-n-law live there). Remember, in this part of the world, you are a minimum of 3 hr drive (45min plane ride) from any major city.

Having said all that, I couldn't wait to move home from Dallas 5 years ago. Still loving it in Midland!

I am coming to visit the second weekend in November in time to see the World Ranch Rodeo Championship and also to scout around housing in Amarillo and nearby for an eventual move. Can't wait. The Yankees are coming.
