finally getting a steady rain and just heard it's a cat 2 with 100 mph sustained winds, so glad preparation was done yesterday. Power outages have already been reported as close as Weslaco, so let's see how much power i'll have i've got my ac down to 65° incase power goes out so i'll be a little cooler a little longer.

Sorry, I try.

Kinda hard being light hearted about hurricanes here in Port Arthur, seeing on an almost-daily basis what a good scrubbing can do.

Yeah I understand.. I lived in Gulfport Mississippi, I know what a good scrubbing can do too. I try to be light hearted, because hearts can be rather heavy in times of stress.. sorry if I came off insensitive.

LOL, that female reporter in the field ( Rita ). Talk about melodramatic! The water was like ankle deep, not even that.. and she was like I don't want to go to far, as we may get washed away.. LOL what a joke. Lets make mountains out of mole hills. If you guys need a good laugh, go check out that NEWS 5 link and watch the videos.. I found it to be very funny.

Flooding.. people I can show you flooding.. What they have or at least shown on that News 5 link and The Weather Channel is not even flooding yet.

I'm sure the news vehicle couldn't get to the worst areas of flooding. I lived in B-ville for many years and I can tell you that the city floods BAD in even a thunderstorm. Sheesh, I remember being stuck on Boca Chica Blvd. on my way to pick up my son from school and having water up to my car windows sloshing against and rocking the car. And that was just after a pretty short-lived thunderstorm.

I'm amazed that six hours after making landfall, the storm is STILL a hurricane and not leaving the area. Those poor folks are in for a big mess.

Oh, I'm from Houston...we know flooding way too well. Usually hurricanes come, destroy, then move on. Dolly is moving so slow that it is just pounding, and pounding. I would not be surprised to find damage more consistant with a strong 2 or mild 3 just based on the duration of the winds. I mean usually the strongest winds will last an hour or two and move on. Some of these folks have gone through 6 hours of winds in addition to the rain.

As of 10 PM, it's down to tropical storm strength. I don't mean to minimize the effects, but you must admit the media exaggerates plenty. It isn't another Katrina, which is what one would think after some of the hype. That being said, flooding is horrible and I feel for all those affected.
