A few pictures of the Frio:

Bottom line is...I've seen almost every river in this state. I love the Frio.

My only regret is that by posting this, I'm letting the "secret" out.

The Guadalupe would be the first place I'd look. It's still a very popular summer spot.

Lots of them on the Frio. Neal's Lodges probably have the best location on the river, and a great cafe. Cabins there are not much to write home about, but they get the job done. No idea about pets. Just up the river from Neal's is Frio Country. More expensive, nicer cabins. Still a great location...not sure about pets there either. Both of those are in the town of Concan and have access to swimming holes and whitewater tubing.

On the other side of Garner State Park is Leakey...there's a place with cabins there called Frio Pecan Farm...named because there is a pecan orchard on the same property...you can buy pecans when they are in season. Nice cabins, not too expensive, and from what I remember, pet friendly...haven't stayed there in at least 5 years though. Not as good of river at this location, so make plans to float Garner to Concan and have someone pick you up at Concan (that's an all-day float...there are other crossings if you prefer a shorter float). The river at Pecan Farm does have a decent swimming hole when the water is up, though, so if that is more your thing, good location.

There are a lot more places along the river as well that have cabins to rent...these are just the three I know of.

There are also cabins along the Guadalupe. We used to have family reunions at some cabins in Sattler...but those were washed away in one of the floods 5-10 years ago. Can't give you any good recommendations, because I don't have any experience at any other place on the Guadalupe.

Just north of Uvalde; the towns of Concan and Leakey are river towns and Garner State Park is in between the two towns.

I really want to see (explore) the Devils River someday.

But as far as most popular....I suspect it would be the San Antonio River....a block & a half from the Alamo.
