If you have been to Schliterbahn (or however you spell that) you have been to the comal. It is also a good tubing river.

Man, there are so many rivers, or particular stretches of rivers, to love. I spent many an hour on the North San Gabriel (pre-lake G'town) canoeing and/or tubing. I have been on the San Marcos river for countless hours, and although it is so small, it was still so important to the people that settled along there. It has a very 'primal' aspect to it....an almost canopy of trees at points, lots of moccasins, log jams, and old structures right out on the water. The Angelina river in East Texas is very similar.

For remoteness, some parts of the mid and lower Guadalupe are very peaceful.

Jeez, now I want to go drag the canoe out......

Yeah case44, San Marcos is home to natural springs, the San Marcos Springs are in fact the second largest in the state. The San Marcos River gets my vote. The river is pristine, natural, and gorgeous. Its been continuously inhabited for at least the last 12,000 years and is home to many endangered species found no where else on earth. I'm ashamed to say that for its own protection, I'm glad to see that so little people know about this special Texas place.

Ya, all the time back when Old/Ole Mill Stream was open just outside the Landa Park Entrence we used to go down it all the time, whole thing all the way to the last public exit.

I'll have to see if I can get some of my pics downloaded (pre digital camera for our family).

Here is another site to check out about the Frio
Texas Hill Country River Region

BTW, ANYONE who says "Texas is flat" has NEVER experienced the Frio or many of our other great rivers.

We stayed in cabins thru River Oaks Resort
River Oaks Resort - frio river concan, vacation homes
Most of their cabins have hot tubs on the back deck/porch. All have a fire pit (roasting marshmallows or sitting by the campfire at night).

Well, protection is key to keeping good rivers -- even short ones -- clean and pristine.

They probably have some of the best locations for river cabins down there. Neals is RIGHT on the river but also on the highway. I prefer all of the LAND around the cabins thru River Oaks. We have stayed at one of the River Oaks cabins (these are numbered 1-12) and those were fun and close to others if your wanting to mingle with others. But they are still far enough away from each other you don't have to. The other "cabin" we stayed at was "Riverside". More like a house in a subdivision on 2 acres riverfront. Both were great.

I wish I had those pics on digital or a disc.... urgh

Default Lake Texoma

We may have mentioned this, but does anyone have any pics from Lake Texoma?? Hundreds of miles of wonderful shoreline. Anyone??
