Criteria
Good nursing job and CDL jobs, a local run job, home at night with benefits
30-40 minute commute time
Small town feel (even if it is within a big town, great suburbs of bigger cities?) with quick trip to groceries Wal-Mart
Low crime
Decent schools
Reasonable real estate need a 4-5 bedroom 1.5-2 bath, not ruling out modular option
Low property taxes $2000 a year range possible?
Lots of Hospitals around D/FW metro. McMinney is a pretty nice place, has it's own hospital. Lot's to do, Six Flags over Texas within an hours drive, then there is the Metroplex. HEB is another area. You might want to check out. Waco is o good place, I would say Austin, but the traffic is horrible and the schools are the pits, unless you can afford to ive in a wealthy neighbothood. Hope this helps a little, but Usually any big city has a bunch of smaller towns around it, so you get the "small town" feel, but are close enough to go "uptown" for a nice nite or even a weekend out.

Well, couldn't let this passby- second vote for Tyler, city of 100,000 metro 200.000 two major medical centers - one with Level One Truma Center, not many in Texas. Known as the Medical "Capital" of East Texas serves 350,000 people with many specailists includes The Texas Joint and Spine Hospital, UT Health Science Center and lowest "city" property tax rate of .205 in the state of any city over 30,000 pop. Also, serveral trucking and distribution centers such as Target Dist. has grown thousands of people in last 8 years. Come "see" come "by" you might just like it!
