Hi All
I am sure the question has now been asked a million times, but here goes. I have recently accepted a job opportunity that will be based in the Irving area. At first I want to rent apartment/home near enough to be able to sample a little bit of what Dallas has to offer as far as night live goes. So I don't want to live too far out, but also want to avoid and "bad" areas. I am in a fortunate position that the rent value is not that big a concern, so I am happy to pay that little extra for a nice neighbourhood. I have been looking at some loft apartments, but most of them get very poor ratings on removed, so I am a little confused. Some of my colleagues live in the Keller area and they said that the commute is not to bad and it is a nice area, however I think this may be little too far out for me. Any suggestions advice will be greatly appreciated. I am also a keen rugby player so anyone out there that knows of some good local clubs, please let me know.Last edited by Yac; 05-26-2006 at 02:42 AM.. |

We are also moving to Texas. Since we eventually want to buy a house and not get caught up in a 6-12 month lease, we found that the Delux Inn in Irving has one of the best weekly/monthly rates. We found that if we wanted to stay there for a month, it would cost approx. $745. Not bad when every other place we found was over $1000 for a month's stay. Just a suggestion so you can get used to the area before you put in your roots.

If you don't have children and rent is not a big concern, the best places to live that are close to where you'll be working are Las Colinas and Valley Ranch. Go to removed and follow the search links to those 2 areas. I've lived in both areas when I was single and loved every moment of it. The area has plenty of shopping and restaurants. The metroplex also has dry and wet areas where liquor is/is not allowed, and both Las Colinas and Valley Ranch are a quick drive to a wet area. You will also be about 15 minutes from downtown Dallas. Most of the nightlife is in downtown around Main St and uptown off of McKinney Ave. Keller is a nice suburban area, but there is a lot of traffic coming and going to Irving. My husband played rugby in college, but to this day, he hasn't found an organized recreational rugby team that is local. Good luck. I'm sure you'll have a good experience.
