Default I got attacked by a dust devil today!

Wow. I dont ever recall seeing one in my life in Texas. I was driving Hwy 84 from Evant to Gatesville, and in Levita, I saw a very tall tornado of dust and it was as if it was alive, the way it was spinning and dancing..it was probably about 25-30 ft tall...and I was just so in awe that I wasn't able to take my eyes off it to grab my camera from the passenger seat, and then, the dust devil came after me with high velocity! I had no other choice but to just drive my truck right through it, praying I wouldnt get sucked up into the Land of Oz...that was too wild.
Anyone seen one before?

Going toward El Paso on I-10, I saw one. I've seen many in Arizona and Calif.

Seen & driven through a few in the desert SW. I think they're relatively harmless for the most part. Wouldn't think there would be such a thing in Central TX!! Never seen one there anyway.

But down here, I thought I saw dust devils several times... but each time it turned out to be just a bunch of leaves & trash swirling around.

I was born and raised in West Texas. In the spring and early summer their pretty common. Working out there you just grab your hard hat hold it on and close your eyes til they go by. A good one will ruf you up with its dirt. But they won't suck you up.

Well, Belle, that would have made a fantastic picture, but your safety is much more important. And the last time I saw blowing dust in Dallas was a few years ago. The date escapes me, but I remember where I was when it occurred.

I have been on this computer too long today. I thought the post stated someone was getting attacked by a dirt devil. Thought a vacuum went crazy.
Even laughed and said I had to read this post.
Well, glad you are OK regardless of what chased you.

I was almost blown to the shoulder by a dust devil two weeks ago. I too was on Hwy 84 but north of I-20 nearly at Post. And I was in a 3/4 ton GMC towing a 3000 lb. tractor on a trailer. I think I saw my life pass in front of me!

Yeah I definitely would rather face one standing than driving. Been there done that. Lots of surface area to hit and blow around when that puppy hits you.
