I think the OP just meant that in the eyes of most, Dallas-Ft. Worth and Houston have been considered THE major cities in Texas for a long time, being the two largest and the economic and cultural powerhouses of the state. Austin and San Antonio didn't even enter into the running in that sense until the last decade or so, with the former's increasing popularity and the latter's increasing population. And sorry to say, but nobody thinks about El Paso.

Well actually, even though Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston are the major cities in Texas, I think that I'll always look at San Antonio as the heart of the state.

if it were up to me, i would probably live in Eugene, Oregon or somewhere like that.
Well, I wasn't talking about that but point taken as far as the traffic and crime. But I'm talking about shopping, museums, arts, sports, recreation. You have it in San Antonio and Austin. But you have more to choose from in Dallas and Houston. But it comes down to preference. I like my metros big. Practically over 5 million and only Dallas and Houston will do if I ever considered moving back to Texas.

I think a moderator needs to combine ALL of the Dallas vs Houston threads into one big smackdown thread. I mean every 2 weeks there is a new one and it seems ridiculous to NOT have one big thread that can be added on to.

As far as I'm concerned each city has its' own advantages and disadvantages.

Dallas
-more cosmopolitan
-better shopping
-cleaner
-ZONING!
-traffic not as bad

Houston
-more international flair
-has a port
-more diverse
-less expensive

If you were to compare the basic cities of Dallas and Houston, Houston would win however if you're comparing the entire metro areas, Dallas would win. The one HUGE advantage that Houston has over Dallas is that Houston has a port.

Look at all the new developments in Dallas especially Victory Park. Dallas has always been considered more of a cosmopolitan city over Houston.

Hahaha, don't make me laugh man. The Texas Medical Center puts Victory Park to shame. That thing is a sky of cranes. I shouldn't mention Houston's other projects happening in DOWNTOWN, UPTOWN, Midtown, Monstrose, and the Museum District and areas around it. You have no idea what you are talking about.

By whose standards????? Yours? Houston is just as equally cosmopolitan as Dallas if not more. There are countless numbers of new developments all around Houston. Dallas just has a surplus of ritz. That's all. If Houston is less cosmo then why are there all of these French and Italian designers all over? Tapas bars, the number one restaurant destination in Texas and probably the entire South...Cosmopolitan essentially means "of the world" and if Houston is more international and more cultural then...
