Nothing is banned as far as I know. If you want to eat a blob of mercury with your fish, more power to ya.

You're thinking of the Ship Channel and upper Galveston Bay connected to it. Not the Gulf of Mexico where the beaches are.

Yeah, the Gulf is shallow and muddy.

However, you still won't see me swimming in it, nor even taking off my shoes. Galveston has (had) its charm for other reasons IMO. The best time to hang out on the waterfront is from sunset through the night. Not really a big fan of the TX coast in general. The water color kinda kills it for me.

WELL DEEPTRANCE JINXED HOUSTON ON PAGE THREE. LOOKS LIKE YOUR HURRICANE PROPHECY CAME TRUE. I LIKE HOUSTON BUT WOULD RATHER LIVE IN DALLAS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. DROVE TO NEW ORLEANS LAST WEEK FROM COLLEGE STATION, HAD TO PASS THROUGH SOUTHEAST HOUSTON, IT SUCKED. TOOK ME 3 HOURS ON I-10 TO GET FROM 290 TO THE SE END BY BAYTOWN TOWARD BEAUMONT. NOW COMING BACK I TOOK THE 610 LOOP, IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT AND I CROSSED HOUSTON IN 30 MINUTES, SO ITS THE LUCK OF THE DRAW, BUT DURING THE DAY HOUSTON IS PRETTY ROUGH NOW, AND ITS SAD BC CLEARLAKE AND FRIENDSWOOD, DEERPARK ETC WERE SO PRETTY. SO...YEAH, I WOULD RATHER LIVE IN DALLAS. ALREADY LIVED IN HOUSTON FOR 3 YEARS, IT RAINED AND FLOODED EVERYDAY, GOING ROUND AND ROUND TO GET EVERYWHERE WAS A PAIN IN THE BUTT, BUT I HAVE LOVE FOR THE CITY FOR ITS MANY OTHER ATTRIBUTES...THE EPI-CENTER OF TECHNOLOGY, OPPORTUNITY KNOCKING, BETTER PAY, AND LOWER LIVING EXPENSE. NEVER BEEN TO DALLAS YET, BUT DALLAS APPEARS TO BE CLEANER NOW THAN HOUSTON POST-IKE AND NICER, A LARGER SPREAD OF BEAUTIFUL SUBDIVISIONS AND SHOPPING DISTRICTS, BETTER ARRAY OF FINER SPA'S AND MORE HAUTE COUTURE. NOT TO MENTION THERE IS NO QUESTION IN MY MIND DALLAS HAS JUST AS MUCH TO OFFER AS HOUSTON IN TERMS OF ENTERTAINMENT ETC., MAYBE JUST NOT AS MUCH OF A DIVERSE CULTURE, OF COURSE NOT EVERYBODY IS LOOKING FOR BEATNICK OR ETHNIC FLAVOR, SOME PEOPLE JUST WANT TRUE TEXAS, THATS WHY THE CITY IS IN TEXAS. YOU WANT SOMETHING DIFFERENT?...GO TO NEW YORK OR DELHI, LOL. PLUS, CHRISTMAS IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE CHRISTMAS, SNOW AND LOTS OF IT, CABINS, WOODS, LANDSCAPE, LIGHTS, NOT MIAMI WEATHER AND GARLAND HANGING OFF SEA SHELLS AND PINK FLAMINGOS, AND THAT'S WHAT YOU GET WITH HOUSTON AND GALVESTON...THE SEASON NEVER CHANGES REGARDLESS OF HOLIDAY, AND FRANKLY THAT SUCKS! SO I WOULD IMAGINE IT'S JUST A MATTER OF OPINION AND TASTE. I AM GETTING CURIOUS ABOUT DALLAS, I'M OVER GALVESTON AND HOUSTON...SEEN ALL THERE IS TO SEE...READY TO CHECK OUT SOMETHING ELSE THAT MAY BE BIGGER AND BETTER. I'M IN COLLEGE STATION SO I AM ALREADY HALF WAY THERE. ONE THING ABOUT HERE THAT I LIKE IS THAT ITS A HUB CITY TO AUSTIN, DALLAS, AND THE NORTH HOUSTON OUTLETS.

There is some truth behind your post, but most of it is highly exaggerated.

"DROVE TO NEW ORLEANS LAST WEEK FROM COLLEGE STATION, HAD TO PASS THROUGH SOUTHEAST HOUSTON, IT SUCKED. TOOK ME 3 HOURS ON I-10 TO GET FROM 290 TO THE SE END BY BAYTOWN TOWARD BEAUMONT"

What time of the day was this? Rush hour traffic maybe?

"THAT'S WHAT YOU GET WITH HOUSTON AND GALVESTON...THE SEASON NEVER CHANGES REGARDLESS OF HOLIDAY, AND FRANKLY THAT SUCKS!"

Not true. It can get down to near freezing during the winter.

"I AM GETTING CURIOUS ABOUT DALLAS, I'M OVER GALVESTON AND HOUSTON...SEEN ALL THERE IS TO SEE...READY TO CHECK OUT SOMETHING ELSE THAT MAY BE BIGGER AND BETTER."

D/FW is larger than the Houston Metropolitan area by 600,000 people sooo...
Bigger? Yes Better? Its all personal preference

I wasn't able to watch the local news (or the evening news) today but last night the weatherman said it's going to approach freezing on Friday night-Saturday morning. I was standing in line at the restaurant for lunch today and overheard the person in front of me telling his co-worker that it's going to get cold tomorrow (thought he included the day--it will be cold exactly 24 hours from now?). I'm not sure how the weather will change right now. I'll find out in the morning!

Me and my girl close on our house in Houston in December. We are flying in next week for the 4th time in a year to spend some more time in the area and then heading to Dallas to visit my cousin. We are both originally from Detroit (myself and my cousin) but already have a Houston vs. Dallas smackdown going. Pretty fun!

We chose Houston because we LOVE the heat..LOVE IT! After living in the rust belt and experiencing the never ending gray that we call Winter for 5-6 months a year we have HAD ENOUGH. We also like the greens/trees/lushness that Houston has to offer...and, of course, the Ocean.
