I do think the population on Dalls Ft. Worth's metro estimates are more recent than Houston's. I believe it may be correct that DFW does have a 600K population advantage over Greater Houston now because of Fort Worth's explosive growth in the recent years.
The info is comparing the 2007 numbers of both Greater Houston and DFW using their respective chamber of commerce websites, which gets their info from the us census. So it's probably reflective of July 1st, 2007.

Each city has a chamber of commerce website...mainly to get businesses the important demographic information necessary to make decisions on business relocations.

The census.gov website is official...which is what the Chamber of Commerce of each region uses.

I agree with you on this. Dallas infrastructure looks like a progressive city. With the exception of South Dallas, the mentality is pretty much redneck the further intown you go. I think this is due to the segregation of the city. I've been pulled over, stopped for really no apparent reason at all myself up there. I believe it may be due to the color of my skin as I too am a young black man. Even in Denver CO, which has a high percentage of whites, i don't remember being singled out like the way I have been up here. Dallas has seemed to have developed a bad reputation of this, although i know that some parts of Greater Houston has the same type of people.

BTW I inserted a comma in your quote for you. sorry but i had to!

Sorry C2H...the Chamber website gives different numbers in different tables...so the difference could be 510K-605K...which is in line with what others have said. There's a saying: "Lies lies, and statistics!" Thanks.

I think this should sum it up, this from Forbes--"Texas cities dominate the Forbes Traveler 30 Most Visited U.S. Cities list, and Houston is the king of the hill among the state’s urban travel meccas. Its 31 million annual visitors include a million convention guests as well as tourists touching down at the Space Center, Moody Gardens, and other attractions. In 2005, six and a half million of Houston’s visitors came from Mexico."

Latest census data: Both Texas cities did well.
DFW added more people than any other MSA in the country followed very closely by Houston. So both are staying strong despite the recession!

It looks like DFW does have 600,000 on Houston metro now. I'll save my crying and wait until after the 2010 census comes out.

Damn, thought i could hold it!!!

Houston was the only to actually gain more people than the year before.
