Moved to the Plano area a couple years ago. My company has a mid sized campus here, so more opportunities here than working from home back in VA. More jobs for what I do outside of my company here in the Dallas area, because you never know what the future will hold. Much more demand for what my wife does here with all of the Fortune 500 companies... much better pay as well.
Factor in low cost of living, tons of stuff to do (concerts, sporting events, festivals, art shows, museums, etc), and more of an independent minded population... and it was a winner for us.

Decided to retire in TX after thoroughly researching FL, so CA, NM, AZ and NV. Glad to be back "home" after 35 years in MN.

My roots run even deeper! We were in Texas BEFORE it was even Texas!

I moved here in the late 70s with my parents and joined the Navy reserves. Was stationed in a Fighter Squadron (VF-202) at NAS Dallas for five years. Got transfered to Florida. When I got out I came back to Texas and have been here ever since.

Well let's see. My maternal great great grandfather came to Sabine County about 1857 from Tattnall County, Georgia where he settled near the town of Milam, Texas. My paternal great grandfather came to Angelina County in about 1860 from Catahoula Parish, Louisiana. Several generations later my mom and dad met and married and I arrived on the Texas scene in 1949.

For me, I was dispatched to Ft. Hood in 1976. Served for 18 months there before being sent overseas. Forgot how much I adored the great state until I revisited a former platoon sergeant who retired and resides in Killeen. Now, I'm planning my return upon retirement in a few years-sooner if that Lottery thing works out!

My mother was born in West Texas area, her family roots in Blanco County. Her great grandfather was one of the first Texas Rangers. My father from Oklahoma. He was military and overseas for awhile after they married, and when he returned (I was 3 y/o) was stationed at White Sands, NM. But we lived in El Paso, TX. Have lived off and on in Texas through childhood and adult life, now here to stay!

Long about the turn of the century, the previous one not the last, the grandmother (mom's side), a brother, a husband and a couple of kids took a covered wagon from around Palestine, Texas to Rising Star, Texas, bless their cotton pickin hearts. They were indeed cotton pickers. A few kids later they packed up that wagon and headed for the Navasota River for more cotton picking and where mom was born. They were tenant farmers. They own the land and the mineral rights now.
A while before WWII, Mom hitched a ride to San Antone (a major migration city at the time) and Fort Sam, where she hooked up with dear ol Dad. They married 25 days after Pearl Harbor and had three kids. Don't know if it was the Sinatra look or the Harley that kept her interest. Dad was born 'out there somewhere', nobody knows much else about that.
I left Texas for about a year later in life. Didn't miss it for an instant. But then realized I didn't need to be in Texas, it was completely ingrained into me. Nonetheless, it's home so I'm back.

I currently live in this crime infested cesspool Las Vegas. On my way driving out here from the east coast 10 years ago I drove through Texas by way of I-40. That was my only time in my life I ever touched down in Texas.
I met my current wife 5 years ago in Las Vegas. She is a born and raised Texas Cowgirl from Humble. For the first 2 years I knew her she always talked about growing up on Lake Livingston and how her parents took them fishing and camping on the lake. So one day 3 years ago I decided to take our vacation in Texas so she can see her family and I could see this lake she always talked about.
We stayed in Wolf Creek Campground. It was beautiful. On our 3rd day she and her sister took the kids to Astro World which is now closed. I stayed and me and the dog took a nice ride all around the lake. I was so floored by the beauty of the southern end of the lake that I bought our retirement property without asking her.
When they all got back I drove everyone to our new land, our future retirement lake property and announced it was ours. She was just fine with it.
We go back 4 times a year now. I love it so much we have decided to move there permantly. So about mid Sept. we will be moving to Texas for good. 6 more weeks !!!
