Now Let's Have The Other Side.
Ok. So many posts about how great Texas is, how you have no desire to see the rest of the US, how low cost of living, etc.
So let's here from people that don't like TX and why you don't like TX.

Maybe call it the "How We Did It Up North" room...? There, they can ***** and honk and holler it with one another, and maybe even hold a contest with each try and to one-up the rest, on their horrible experiences down here. Perhaps in the form of an essay type entry to start...
Theme being, maybe...? Why I Moved To And Dislike Texas, Yet Still Live Here.
First prize is a one way airline ticket back across the Mason-Dixon Line by way of Southwest Airlines....
Second is a U-Haul trailer...

well, i think that it is only fair that those who are researching Texas, get a fair and balanced mix of opinions, because I surely dont want anyone to move here and be unhappy. just as in my dislike for South Texas-i cant begin to tell you how much i disliked living there and how miserable i was. and when i shared my experiences, i got alot of hateful responses. there is something for everyone, and not everyone has the same tastes. i feel at home in Central and North Texas-and love it here. i also like Panhandle Plains. the rest of Texas i aint too thrilled about.

I heard it said once that when your from Texas there's just no other place you would rather be.
I'm Tennessee born myself but after living here for nearly thirty years I have to agree. There's no wrong or right in it. It's just home.

TexasReb...holy crap...you are something else. Only yankees don't like TX?...is that what you are implying?
I actually am not "a yankee" as you say but since you had a wild post I will post this.
You stated..."Maybe call it the "How We Did It Up North" room...? There, they can ***** and honk and holler it with one another"
Interesting that you stated that. Here is why. I have travelled throughout the USA and lived and do live in many states...including TX. All the honking you mention. The first two places that come to my mind are Southern Cali and..guess what?..Southern TX...the valley is very bad with all that honking...expecially Mcallen. But when I visited up North. Not all that bad. mmm...
Eithier I misunderstood what you were trying to say and if I did I am sorry. Or, you are just in love with TX and don't think much of Northerners.
I personally can't stand most of Texas. The area I do like is the Hill Country. Fredericksburg is my favorite. Highly enjoy myself when I am there. Spring is great, friendly people and...nice beer...hic.....LOL

well if i based my opinion of Texas on my one year of living in South Texas, the most miserable year of my life, experiencing the rudest people i have ever met, i would not like Texas at all.
Hill Country area is not the only area that has friendly people-i have found alot of Texas hospitality in pert near all of Texas, minus South Texas

Lutarian? Read carefully what I am going to say for now. I say for now, because I don't have time to get much into this with you tonight. I am a new grandfather and am headed out for road trip to visit my kids, and the rest will just have to wait for a day or two.
But you didn't misunderstand me at all. I got a little sarcastic, but I stand by the basic theme.
Also? You are right. I LOVE TEXAS! I think though that the notion I "must not think much of northerners" might be amusing to my own kids who are "half-yankee" (their mother being a northerner). So splease spare that silly summation. Good gawd.
As to whether or not you are a "yankee"? ...welll, there are different definitions, but if you are a native of this part of the country, then you are different than any I have ever known....and I sure missed my guess...and bet.
No, Lutarian, I follow patterns a bit. Your posts almost ALWAYS seem to be one of constant damnation and scab-picking when it comes to Texas. It is this attitude that gives a certain variety of yankees/transplants a negative reputation in Texas. Not the critiques per se, but when it becomes close to being a trademark and association. There is NOTHING wrong with sharing dislikes and such (hell, I have my own...illegal immigration for one! LOL)...it is just yours seem to be constant, and that it annoys you when Texans brag on our great state quite often! I mean, as was pointed out, there are several other threads for talking about dislikes...
To be honest, I don't think you will really ever understand Texas and its natives. That is plain as Big Tex at the State Fair. And thus, it is obvious we probably almost speak a different language.
I thought TurkeyTrot said it very well:
I heard it said once that when your from Texas there's just no other place you would rather be.
I'm Tennessee born myself but after living here for nearly thirty years I have to agree. There's no wrong or right in it. It's just home
Home. That says it all. I don't know if you can/will ever see that concept the way many of us native Texans/Southerners do when it comes to our respective states. Maybe one has to be to the manor born, as they say. Because of that, it makes it difficult to translate to those who feel no real sense of place. That you don't is obvious...not the least of reasons being how you constantly parade how many places you have lived. So what? Even more so, take an (even if unintended) condecending attitude which seems to presume those who haven't must not have the requistite knowledge to know why they prefer Texas. So just chalk it up to backward provincialism or something, right?
Well, getting tired, gotta get on the road tomorow, so I will just put it this way: Texas is HOME. Just because we don't spend day in and day out finding fault with it, doesn't mean we think it is perfect. It just means we prefer it to any other place on earth. And equally, we don't need to spend one nano-second justifying to anybody else why we do.
Now then, outta here for a day or two. And I hope you will take all I say in the spirit of good discussion/debate/differences. I never want to be rude to anyone, no matter how much I might disagree with them.
God Bless Texas!
