They Say They Were Born in the U.S.A. The State Department Says Prove It - WSJ.com

Most of these persons were born in the U.S., have lived here all their lives, have worked here all their lives, have all their family here and have paid taxes all their lives.

Yet the government is placing the burden of proof on it's citizens. Essentially they are saying prove that you were born here. I thought in our country we were innocent until proven guilty but in this case we are guilty.

I say we because when I apply for a passport I will be in the same predicament.

What do you do when your country tells you, you are not a U.S. Citizen?

This is very disheartening.
That is foten the case where a perosn doews not have a birth cetrtificate i mnay thongs and has been for years. Most people do not bother to get a birth certificate until the ned comes up in these circumstances. My father had to go thru the process year ago because of a unrelated problem to passport. The innocent until proven guilty is a criminal law term and they are not being charged with anything. They can check now to get a birth cetificate.
