Oh so true Jen...
Does Texas really have a bad image? I've really never heard anything bad except for how strong law enforcement is. Don't mess with Texas. It's always been known that you just don't want to get in trouble in Texas because the DO have the death penalty and are not afraid to use it. There are strict laws in Texas and the laws are strictly enforced for the most part. Is that a bad thing?
Through my life I was raised in Northern California, moved to Arkansas for a little over 3 years (14-17yrs old) back to Southern California (briefly and I hated it!) then to Arizona and have been here for almost 19 years. I would never tell anyone that I was a Californian, they are frowned upon too much. I try to avoid telling anyone I lived in Arkansas, just because of people's ignorance and the reaction I received about Arkansas. And, I really cannot stand the state of Arizona (never have liked it here, but never really able to get out until now). Although I guess I will never actually be able to say "I'm a true Texan" because I was not born, bred and rasied there
I WILL NEVER EVER EVER HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SAYING I'M FROM TEXAS AND PROUD OF IT!

You see many bumper stickers here that read "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could".Sounds to me like you will fit right in.

Watch the pride thing. Pride is listed as one of the seven deadly sins and refers to a strong sense of self-respect, a refusal to be humiliated as well as joy in the accomplishments of oneself or a person, group, or object that one identifies with, and in the case the identify is being a Texan. Excessive pride also manifests itself as arrogance. Pride is a lofty and often arrogant assumption of superiority in some respect.
Synonyms of pride include conceit, self-esteem, egotism, vanity, and vainglory. The antonym of pride is humility.
Maybe a word like admiration/admire would be better for those who are "proud" of Texas. "I admire Texas." "I feel much admiration for Texas."
So for what it's worth..................., just an idea.

Huh, now we can't say we are proud ? Nonesense. This is getting too philisophical. dude is proud to be a Texan. I'm proud of my kids. My mom is proud of me....I'm proud of my car when it's washed. I'm proud of the Chargers when they make it to the Super Bowl (whoops).
not sure why we need to analyze this concept of pride.....everyone knows what Lifer Texan meant when he said this...
I actually like definition #11 of pride:
"11. sexual desire, esp. in a female animal."

I said it was just an idea. You can say whatever you want to whomever you want. I just have learned through the years that proud is not a word I use. I admire my children, I admire my friends, I admire my dogs, but I couldn't care less about the Chargers.
Yes, #11......cute!!
Oh heck, what does it matter anyway?
We all have different notions on what is acceptable, misconstrued, or whatever. Different strokes for different folks and different terminology as well.
Forgive my analytical nature; it's definitely one of my major weaknesses.

Thanks Lifer, I guess I will have to find one of those bumper stickers when I get there lol!
One of my sons was born in Showlow. Very nice there! We were in Snowflake/Showlow area for about a year and came back to Bullhead City, AZ. I live on the border of Bullhead City, AZ/Laughlin, NV/Needles, CA. This is a casino/tourist area with 10 casinos and lots of snowbirds (retirees trying to get out of the cold weather and our town of about 30,000-35,000 doubles it's population in the winter). In the sumertime it's 125++ here! I'm tired of the heat (I don't care if it's DRY HEAT! It's still WAY TOO HOT), tired of the mentality (we too hav been invaded by Californians, they have tripled our real estate here in less than 5 years. This is a good thing for us wanting to leave here, but it's just crazy when I see a home that sold 6 years ago for $85,000 sell within this last year for $319,000.
