OOhh! I've been to Chain o lakes. My stepgrandparents took us camping out there once when I was in High School. You're right...TONS of gators, but I loved hearing them and learning that they CAN make sounds. I also spent a lot of time horseriding.

Well, now it's gonna be Rusk, TX
My parents have lake house on Horsehoe Bay and hunting acreage near by around Johnson City. It's just gotten too crowded and suburbie for me over the past 10 year. Tourists tick me off as well.

What is your Secret Place.. or somewhere not known by everyone that holds a place in your heart?
Before we moved here.. it is/was the "Frio River" Area of Concan, Leakey & Rio Frio.. and still is..
I want to hear yours!

Hmmmm. VERY good and original topic, funrivers! In fact, I am a bit envious I didn't think of it myself! LOL (just kidding).
Noting of course the soundness of the logic my friend Case used ( But then, if I did tell you, it wouldn't be a secret anymore. And what fun would that be?? ), mine are all in East Texas.
The "city" would be Tyler, while the small town would be Jefferson. But the really favorite getaway spot is a tiny settlement bordering Caddo Lake, named "Uncertain." When I am back in that area, I truly feel like the rest of the world and its worries are left behind!

Several for me. I enjoy driving up the Panhandle toward the OK border, to see the little towns like Canadian, Pampa, etc. Has its own beauty, especially the sunsets! And of course the gorgeous Palo Duro Canyon area.
Also traveling east on Hwy 82 toward Sherman, visiting the cute little towns. I like to stop in Muenster and St. Jo. There is a great little bakery in Muenster where we used to stop to get pastries. One can also take a little side trip onto Hwy 59 to the charming little city of Bowie.
Have had very nice trips going down toward Fredericksburg, especially in Spring with all the fields of bluebonnets. Missed them this year. And visiting the produce stands for peaches in the summer. Texas has the BEST peaches!
