WestFest - Labor Day Weekend
IT'S HERE!!! WOO-HOO!!! On Labor Day Weekend the fine folks down in West, Tx bring out all of the stops for one great party Czech style. For those that say there is "no culture in Texas" - they have not experienced events such as WestFest. Those of us "in the know" know to stop anytime we are traveling down I-35 in West for some Kolaches, breads, sandwiches, etc. I don't think my car has ever gone down 35 w/o stopping in West, lol.

West Texas is just north of Waco. I love sying that to people who do not know there is a town by the name of West. I didn't know about the Labor Day Fair. Thanks for the tip. i doubt I will make it there, only becasue of traffic and gas prices.

Nope, my car can't be forced to drive by the bakery on I-35.....it just automatically pulls right in. And those kolaches never make the trip back home either......somehow disappear going down the road!

That is why you buy the frozen ones. Just don't be tempted to turn the heat on and thaw them out . Somehow, they don't taste as good still frozen.
One time we stopped in Hillsboro on our way back to Dallas. After getting back in the car it smelled like the bakery. OMYGOSH!!! I had the kids put them in the WAY BACK so we would not be tempted.
I'm happy to say though, I have a fresh box of Kolaches from West right now that have not been completely devoured. Give me a few minutes though

There are a few places around Dallas that sell more authentic kolaches. Heck, I even have some of the few days old ones I can send ya. That would be better than THOSE! I'm polishing off the Honey Cornbread I picked up the other day at the Czech bakery in West for lunch

Fair warning.......If you ever go and you have children and care, don't go after about 8 p.m. at night because the drunks are out in full swing. I went once without my children and got there about 8 p.m. and stayed for quite a while. Actually, it was a first date and I wanted to leave, but....well, I didn't want to say anything. Anyway, I couldn't believe how many really drunk and foul-mouthed people were there. I'm just so glad my children weren't there.
It was fun and a great place to go, but not if you don't want to be around all the drinking and smoking. Thank goodness it's held outside. I'm sure there were the "under the influence" people there all day, but they seem to come out in droves at night. Definitely not a place I'd want to take children although I have taken mine before early in the morning and left by noon. That was pleasant.
