Native Texan (large city) -- y'all

One of the few ways you can identify me as a Texan.

Nearly everything else out of my mouth sounds midwest/southwest.

Dang! I am contacting American Education Services and informing them to reimburse me for all my college loans. I graduated Magna *** Laude from Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA. with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. I use contractions all the time and I hardly consider myself uneducated!

The next time some nurse is saving your life, I hope it isn't me, because in your frame of mind, you consider me uneducated because I use contractions. By the way, as TexReb tried to point out to you....Y'all is NOT slang--it's a contraction!

Just because one chooses to use contractions doesn't make them uneducated. Contractions are taught in grade school English!! I find it hard to believe that you have NEVER used a contraction in your speech ever!!

Y'all was not taught in any of the schools I went to. And I do not believe that it is taught anywhere else. Thank god it's not taught where my child goes to school either.
By the way, I could really care less if anyone uses that word. As long as it's no one in my family.Remember, it's just my opinion. Also, I have not had a nurse save my life. And if you wouldn't save a person's life simply because they feel that "Y'all" is not proper English, shame on you.

I've been known to use a lot of words and phrases very loosely. And many times, I've done or said things without really thinking about them first. My "problem" is that I mix it up too much. Some people, including myself, think that's not a real big deal. Now, y'all need to know that, regardless of what I write (and it's mostly plain English), I really am a Texan and I mean bidness.

Well, hopefully, y'all will never need a NURSE to save your life. AND furthermore, you're twisting my words. I said you are stating that people are uneducated who use contractions! I use contractions, I am a nurse, I am uneducated in your way of thinking! Do you want an uneducated nurse taking care of you? I know I wouldn't!
And for the record, as a nurse, I have saved plenty of lives and some of them were questionable lives to save, but that is not my decision who is worthwhile to save. I must treat all lives as viable lives. And if some patient thinks I use improper English and then the next day I'm doing CPR on them, then that's their hang up, not mine.

she didn't say that she wouldn't save a person's life because a person feel's that Y'all aint proper English, what she was trying to say is that a person would not want to be resuscitated by someone who is not educated/skilled, and just because someone uses slang, does not mean that they ain't educated.
oh and i am an educated Emergency Room Registered Nurse, Y'ALL, believe it or not! he he

I use both. I was born and raised in Dallas Texas, but my family is from up north. So I have the lingo from both regions.

I would probably get booted back up North or laughed at until I died from embarrassment!
