Fences
i know this should be posted in the "House" forum but i think that I need an answer from someone who lives in Texas and knows the "market" here.
i am moving into a trailer way out in the country in a few weeks, and am putting in a doggy door (like i always do wherever i live), and need to get a small area fenced off so my little dogs (20lb each) can have freedom to go in and out when i work long shifts or am gone for a while.
i measured the area i want fenced off-it's about 30x30. dont care if it's chain link or field fence-my dogs aint diggers and they are too small to jump, just need a visual "barrier". i want to do this the cheapest way possible, since i am only renting this cheap country trailer for a year before buying a place.
the one requirement is that i will have to have a "gate" of some sort, since i am fencing off the front yard, since that is where the deck is, and the parking area is.
what would you suggest as type of fencing to use? and about what do you think the supplies would cost? and about how much do you think would be a reasonable estimate for time/labor?
i might have a rancher cowboy friend of mine do it, but just in case i cant get his lazy a** over there to do it, i want to have a back up plan and call some local fencing place or find someone on craigslist.......
any recommendations/ideas are welcome.
p.s. ideally i would love to find a rent-a-fence place...i dont understand why i cant find one-and my friends say that there are some out here, but they dont know exactly what company...being near a military installation with a very transient population, i would think that there MUST be-folks come here for temporary tour of duty all the time. i rented a fence in Ft Stewart GA-it worked out great-they built a very nice chain link fence behind my trailer and i paid a reasonable rental fee each month, and they took it down when i moved!

rent it fences I have seen are usually for construction sites and I think their cost is fairly prohibitive if you are considering doing it for a year or so...
if your dogs are not jumpers or diggers what about one of those plastic panel corrals they sell at larger pet stores--
or something like these just to fence in area where they come out of the doggy door...
Dog Supplies: Dog Exercise Pens
http://www.discount-pet-superstore.c...rcise_pens.htm
or this
http://www.bestfriendfence.com/dog-proof-fence.asp
there are gates purchased separately with this...
how to build dog fence with wire mesh from Tractor Supply type place
http://www.unchainyourdog.org/FenceMesh.htm
they make something called a sand fence or snow fence comes in rolls, is made of wooden slats and is about 4 ft high--is used for temp crowd control, and to keep sand/snow held back...but you would have to get ground posts to stabalize it...
http://www.kalinichfenceco.com/utilityfence.asp
tractor supply stores (and I know there must be one around Kileen) sell them and probably deliver if you need them to...
http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/...&Special=false
they also carry all kinds/sized of wire mesh fencing in rolls--
or panel fence that is about 14 or16 ft long panel of plastic coated wire mesh about 4 ft tall
for hog pens and stuff like that--sturdy and not bendy like wire mesh type fencing--
depending on where the dog door is you might only need 2 panels if you used the house as one side and a wide gate as the 4th...
you would need to dig post holes and probably need some concrete to set the posts for what ever fence you do--because wet weather is going to make the posts unstable
but maybe you want something more substantial though--
personally I think the snow fence would be a better look than the wire fencing...

thanks.
many military towns have rent-a-fence companies-for residential, cuz military families tend to rent, and then move. there were several companies that did it at Ft Stewart GA, and that is a much smaller army post than here....so i am surprised i am not finding one.

Dog Kennels: Chain-Link Portable Dog Kennel at Drs. Foster & Smith
but it sounds like you want something more substantial though--more like a real fence

Have you called any companies to see if they would put one in on a temp basis?
the closest one I found on google search was in Thrall--which is good bit SE of where you are I think and their web site looks pretty old--but there is number to call
Construction Rent-A-Fence Inc.

actually no i havent called them, because i just assumed they would be like Ft Stewart, advertising their names as "rent-a-fence" or put in their ad in the yellow pages that they rent fences..........
but i will call them. maybe one of them will know which one does rent them!
there are TONS of fence companies here.

yeah when i read the reviews on Yahoo Local re: Military Fence, they were unanimously saying that it was a very poorly run company and everyone had bad experiences and said "stay away at all costs".

I am thinking you are very rural, is that correct?
What I have seen is that fences just tend to slow Coyotes down -- not stop them -- and then the fence traps the prey. And at least big Dogs can hold their own. Small Dogs, Cats and Goats are what's for dinner.
The practice I have seen folks use around where I think you are not just big Dogs, but Donkeys (btw, not advocating a Donkey for you ). Seems the Donkeys will stomp a Coyote to death, just on principle.
I am thinking you might want to chat this topic with the locals down at the hardware and feed stores. They have all been to this rodeo a few times, before.
