There are probably many posts, that start off like this...and yes ill go and check them but heres my situation if you can help Id love it.
I am graduating college in May and would like to move to texas from south florida by the end of the yr or begining of 08. I want to go for a 2nd bachelors at either TSU <texas southern university in houston> for health information management, or texus state university in san marcos.. Ive been looking at the housing in each area and they are way below price (compared to here in florida), I am just worried about crime and such. Are there any small towns relatively close to san marcos or houston, that are nice neighborhoods that also have a good mixture of cultures. I am from 2 cultures and bf (future hubby is canadian) , and coming from florida the melting pot of the us I don't want to encounter racism or anything. If anyone can tell me the perfect place to live, let me know. I have a while before I decide but I want to make up my mind so I can start planning for it. Thanks bunches. toodles. |

Of the two Texas State in San Marcos is better. San Marcos IS the smaller town outside of Austin. Austin crime is lower than that of Houston, to say the least. San Marcos even less. Austin is the most tolerant city in Texas, Welcoming anyone. Austin and Houston are both "Tech" savy, leaning towards Austin. H.I.M. degree toss up. Houston has MD Anderson (leading cancer reasearch center). Austin has Austin State Hospital\Austin State School (Leading Mental Health Facility) and the central administration for all Texas Psychiatric Hospitals and State Schools. Not to mention eithers standard hospitals. If my wife would let me we would move to South Austin and work\school in San Marcos. It seems a bit odd but the rush hour traffic would be going into Austin as you are leaving and leaving Austin as you are coming back. You miss it both ways.
