Texas university rankings (overall)
Rice ranked among nation’s Top 25 universities - Houston Business Journal:
Houston’s Rice University is the only university in Texas to make the top tier in the latest “America’s Best Colleges” guide from U.S. News & World Report.
Rice ranked No. 17 on the listing.
Among other Texas universities and colleges, The University of Texas at Austin ranked No. 47 on the list, followed by Texas A&M University in College Station at No. 64; Southern Methodist University in Dallas at No. 66; Baylor University in Waco at No. 76; and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth at No. 113.

Good for Rice, JJP.
But bad for UT. Are they serious? Forty-seventh?? Surely, they had to have done better than that.

I disliked going to UT at Austin. Awful educational program there.

UT-Austin has been in the 45-50 range on the list for some time. Not too bad, and the highest ranked public university in the state.

UT at 47 is actually pretty good. It is still good for being tier 1. Texas A&M as well. Texas is trying to improve it's standing though. But I have heard that many professors call the USNEWS a joke. Many other rankings have UT higher such as the London Times and UT is a list with Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina known as the public ivies.

The eight original "Public Ivies" are as follows:
UVA, Michigan, UNC, UT-Austin, Miami University (OH), William & Mary, Cal-Berkeley, and Univ. of Vermont.

And you have to look at some of the details that get factored in the rankings. Number of Trees on Campus. No Joke.
Probably best to at least start with the source document and check and compare the major subsections:
