Basement pubs w/ pool tables and big screens & video game machines are much cooler though.

And yeah being from a big city, 'rural' to me includes those medium size towns due to the lifestyles & mannerisms. It's all relative.

Well, ya know...when I visited Ft. Worth a few years back, men were riding up and down main street on horses like nothing. I loved it! So I though maybe in your neck of the woods, they too rode horses on the main streets like in Ft. Worth.

This is common place around Missouri. My brother in law even carpeted his garage (with discount reminents from Lowes) so it would help it stay warmer in the winter !! HAHA and installed a gas fireplace to keep it warm during ice storms.

I can't say that I believe it's a North Texas thing to use the garage as a gathering place. I grew up in San Antonio and while it's not something my parents did at our own home there were MANY evenings and weekends where we gathered at the neighbors garage down the street to sit and visit. Other than that I didn't run across it too much until I met my husband and his family. It can be the largest family gathering or just the hubby and me visiting and it generally ends up with us all sitting out in the garage. They're not generally outfitted with carpeting or sofas and such but there's always a well stocked refrigerator with beer and sodas (or cokes!) , lawn chairs for everyone and a view of the kids running around the yard. Although if it's a large gathering, the men-folk usually are the ones in the garage drinking beer and playing dominoes while the women are either sitting out back on the covered patio or depending on the South Texas heat, inside in the A/C!

no, i didnt say that it's a North Texas thing-just said that i saw it to a lesser degree there...but here in Central Texas (at least in the towns surrounding Ft Hood) e.g. primarily military active duty and retired population, it is extremely common

Cool Just the usual chores!

I guess they would think going out to feed the donkeys every evening might seem a little funny. But when I head on out to the stock tanks to feed the fish might get them wondering! I like this one it looks like my fish when their eating. LOL

Never gave it much thought myself, but I've been told we look pretty silly wearing jackets with shorts! LOL I guess it might look a little biazrre, but we are so used to wearing our shorts around for such a good number of months out of the year, it sometimes is a little difficult to get used to long pants for everyday running around in. I think we've all been guilty, it's so easy to just pull those shorts on (even if a norther has blown in) and keep on trucking, that is until you decide that north wind has a little more nip to it than you counted on and that's when you decide to go get a jacket or hoodie on to go with those shorts!

I know here in Hutto, hanging out in the garage is pretty normal. Tons of people in my neighborhood do it, and my sister and bil are guilty too. They have a beer stocked fridge in there (He works for Miller so always gets free beer) and most weekends there will be neighbors stuffed in his garage and driveway with the smoker/grill going and loud music. We're usually out in the driveway ourselves. In my younger years, growing up in relatively rural Brazoria, hanging out in the "shop" was pretty normal for most of the guys. Shop meaning the very large building outside the house that was used for car repairs/storing farm equipment, etc...also usually stocked with refrigerators and lots of beer and tv's sometimes. Also, in very small towns cruising up and down the main road or hanging out in the parking lot of the nearby convenience store (although I don't see too much of this nowadays.). Pasture parties were also pretty big deals for us.
