Has any recently relocated from California?

Depending on where in CA you are from, humidity might be an issue. I know that is one of the reasons why we chose Fort Worth. The weather was more what we are used to in the Sacramento Valley. Also, Fort Worth is more relaxed than Dallas. We just got back from moving my Mom out to Saginaw (north west of Fort Worth) on New Years Day. And I am leaving CA here on the 12th, so you can't get more recent than that
Also in our consideration is that we are more conservative in nature (which I thought you had mentioned), wanted good schools (you can do some research on the ISD's in the area you are looking at as well as particular schools at www.greatschools.com) and diversity.

"Also, are the food portions really big in Texas."
That's bunk and stereotype. For the most part, people here seem to have about the same eating habits as those I hung around in San Diego. There may be some places in town where you can gorge yourself, but I don't know if they are the norm. Pei Wei, Subway, Chipotle, Red Hot and Blue, Pot Belly's, Mi Cocina, Red's Patio Grill....all are places around here I eat at and all of them give you the standard portions. many of them even offer healthy alternatives (the grilled veggie sandwich at Red's is 2 die 4). The whole 'texans are fat and all of them only eat steak 3 meals a day' seems to be somewhat of a myth....most of the females I work with in my industry are yoga freaks/gym rats and eat nothing but fish/salads/Sushi when we go out for biz lunches.
Sure, there are overweight people here, but the media seems to make more of a big deal out of this than it really is.....

"In Cali I notice people tend to judge others,(economically speaking), based on the size of their house and the neighborhood/city they live in. How is it in Texas?? Is it just the city/neighborhood one lives in?? Be honest."
Huh ? I've lived in two affluent areas of Cali and in both places people judged more on your Zip code vs the size of your house. Even then, nobody seemed to care or even talk about these things much (maybe more so in the soccer mom circles). Nonethless, this type of behavior happens anywhere. We as humans tend to want to use everyone else around us as a yardstick to measure our own success. It tends to be more prevelant in larger cities where there is a range of incomes/housing choices.

Where exactly is "Hill Country"? I've seen pictures which are absolutely beautiful. Is it expensive? Is there shopping-major supermarket/wal-mart?
Good schools and home prices? How far is the closest major city?
Natural disasters? Flash floods???

San Antonio and Austin are on the edges of the hill country. Both are big cities with good schools and good shopping.

It's important for us to live in close proximity to jobs and entertainment.
Family friendly, as we have 3 young boys(10,3,2).
I don't want to live in a town where there is open racism.
We are an interracial couple, I'm black and he's white. I know as far as black/white couples go we are still considered different. Yes, even in California!
I don't want to people to turn their heads and gasp when they see us together, as if they saw a two-headed monkey speaking spanish.
Climate: I don't mind the heat, but Lord Almighty I can't stand the cold!
No hurricanes or tornadoes please.
oh yeah, how come so many homes are made of brick in Texas???
I don't want to live right in the city and not in the boonies
I would like to have a house that still has tons of yard space like .50 to 1acre would do just fine, thank-you.
I know I'm asking too much.
The race thing is really important though. I think too many of one race is a bad thing. That's just one lady's opinion.

I live in a small town and even here I don't see too many people
staring or making a big deal out of interracial couples...with so much
going on in the world...I think people are finally figuring out how
silly it is to obsess over who another person loves... I hope
that you find a great place and enjoy Texas...
