No 3rd Ward isn't bad. One girl has gone missing from Courtyard dorms though. The area has alot of homeless/crackheads/etc. but your pretty safe if you just stay to your self and hang with the right people. The frat boys at TSU are a very big threat if your a girl.

But comparing it to like 5th ward or East Dallas not even close(maybe in the late 80 and 90's), most people in Waco know one another or went to school together and they are killing each other over money owed and drugs, SAD but true.
Very true, but if your not familar with Waco, than you'd think differently. Gangs are becoming very bad in Waco as well and innocent people are getting mixed in with it. One white dude at the movies with his girlfriend had to be escorted to there car by security guards because a group of young boys tried to attack him.

That's why lots of rules are starting to be enforced at public places in Waco.

Can't nothing top Port Arthur. Good old PA could even give The Big Easy a run for its money when it comes to crime and corruption.

Timely topic. Are y'all familiar with Bacliff, a small town along the coast near Kemah? There was an article in this week's Houston Press about its problem with white gangbangers. Is it really as bad as described? I know journalists like to sell papers. Does anyone know anything about this town? I didn't even know it existed till I read the article. Gangsters in Bacliff - News - Houston Presspage 1 - Houston Press For some reason, this article has really piqued my curiosity.

I grew up not far from there. Didn't really know there was all that going on there, but I haven't lived in Galveston County for over six years.

Eh, Sunnyside is not that bad. It has its parts but is nothing compared to say 5th Ward or Acres Homes.

Oak Cliff is not bad (N. Oak Cliff is very desirable) - maybe parts of SE Oak Cliff and parts of South Dallas and Pleasant Grove have more problems than others - we still have a few rough streets in East Dallas but it has gentrified a lot. Really the highest crime area inside Dallas is NW Dallas. But a lot of the suburbs around here are having most of the crime (since they have most of the population) it seems. Arlington is on the news just about every week - but it's a pretty large suburb so more things happen. And it does have nice parts with very little crime.

Most people I know are able to handle themselves pretty well. A lot of people from homogeneous areas 'freak' when they get into a different situation and the criminals can spot an easy target.

Bacliff? Really? My little sisters best friend lives there with her husband and 3 kids. She's never mentioned any rampant gang crime there as far as I know. Bacliff is so small, it's more like an "area" than a town. Actually, when I was just out of high school/early 20's, one of my best friends lived there too and I was there all the time and it wasn't bad. There could be a few bad elements though, I imagine, but they may have blown it out of proportion. Just look what they do with storm coverage.
