Even on the news up here in Dallas the weather people said, "fill your tanks" the other night. Geez. I'm tired of this already. First we have the spring "TORNADOS ARE COMING RUN TO THE BATHTUB" scare tactics. And in my ENTIRE life of 42+ years IN North Texas I have NEVER seen a tornado and no one in my family has EVER had their home or business hit with one since the mid-1800's when they got here. Now we have the Busy hurricane season. Texas just does not get this many potential hurricanes coming right at it. URGH!!! How much longer do we have of this???

why would it have cost you 600 bucks? even with gas prices, i cant see how it cost you that much. how much was your hotel room and how many days did you stay????????????
i am confused!
and why focus on just kingsville? how bout Alice? Falfurrias? Freer? there are plenty of small towns just a bit further west away from the coast that wouldnt cost you much more in gas, or much more time driving.

We left for Rita and had to go as far as Eagle Pass in order to get a room. That trip ended up costing me over $600.00 and it wasn't necessary since Rita turned.

Kingsville is the closest city that would be out of the grunt of landfall but Kingsville will still get it pretty good since it's only 40 miles from me and 46 miles from the coastline.

I've been thinking about it quite a bit and a) I don't want to end up in that traffic and b) I know we'll end up sleeping in my Pathfinder if we do so I thought I would seek via forum for something a little more comfortable for my daughter.

A lot of people in Southeast/Northeast Texas always flee inland to San Antonio, Austin, etc to find there are little to no rooms left. Nuts to that.

We always went to Laredo. Short drive from Corpus & its usually far less crowded because it always gets overlooked for some reason.

Here's some more advice. La Posada Hotel in Laredo is an AWESOME place to stay while you wait out the storm & can be had for dirt cheap on sites like Hotwire, Priceline, etc if you play your cards right.

EDIT: Oh, and they're pet friendly too. BIG plus!

if you are willing to pay 100 bucks a day for a place to get shelter, i will bet that you can probably spend even less money, if you just head further west somewhere and get a very cheap motel room (yes, even with the extra gas that it will cost to get to Freer, Falfurrias, Encinal, Cotulla, Dilley, Pearsall....etc)
i lived there for a year (06-07) and was alone with two dogs. i had my evacuation plan and that was what i was going to do...just hole up in some podunk town in a cheap motel somewhere a few hours west

Is there anyone here from Kingsville that would be willing to put up mom and daughter for two days until Ike passes. The floor would be fine and we're good people.

Rooms are already full in your town and I'm willing to pay you $100.00 a day just for a place to plop until Ike passes.

Not that we have a choice, but prefer assistance from single female, married couple or elderly.

Eileen

I have to travel about 50 miles on I-35 for a meeting on Friday afternoon. Between the rain and the evacuation traffic, it should be an interesting trip.
