my friend lives in FLOUR BLUFF and says she doesnt think it will be bad enough to evacuate. i told her to start driving up here and stay with me, because if she starts out too late, she might hit traffic up 35 or 281...what do yall think? do you think that folks in Corpus Christi/Flour Bluff will be ok staying there?

The latest forecast has it most likely going in north ofCorpus Christi, halfway to Galveston and maybe more. No one knows exactly where yet. I'd get the h--- away from anywhere near that coast if I were your friend (I don't know where Flour Bluff is). It's likely to be nasty even here in Ft Worth this weekend.

Flour Bluff is right between Corpus Christi and Padre Island, right on the water.

I would get out. The storm has sped up meaning it is moving more west than north right now. They have yet to be right about how the high pressure or trough will impact the movement of Ike. The storm has been predicted to make landfall all over the gulf coast and Texas. The storm has 115 mile wide hurricane winds. Corpus to Galveston is only 180 miles.

At this point, all of the models show it going in around Galveston. I have until 4 p.m. to cancel my hotel reservations and will probably do so after checking the 2 pm NHC update. Your friend in the Bluff will most likely be just fine.

I'm with you, Marlow. We have until 6 p.m. to cancel our reservations (both in Corpus proper...if they evacuate the Island) and in Laredo (in case it shifts back south). We'll wait 'til this afternoon to cancel anything, but are planning to stay for now.

Staying in Flour Bluff, neighbors and friends say we are safe but North Padre residents should evacuate or at least move to higher ground. Our house is boarded up and we have our supplies. I would estimate less than 50% of homes and businesses are boarded up as of 11AM, just returned from Portland and on my way home to Flour Bluff, took SPID and 181 to Portland and Ocean Drive to SPID on way home.

Why would coastal cities such as Corpus Christi not open evac centers? I read that Corpus would not be doing that. Is this because they expect people to leave or just dont wanna deal with it? I dont get it! They arent doing mandantory evac except for elderly, special needs. What am I missing here?

If CC opened evac centers and shelters, then the storm took a turn and aimed toward them, they would be in a world of hurt! They are being cautious and not creating a situtation that would put folks in harms way. That's the way I see it, anyways!
