Default Photos of Ike aftermath in Orange County:

With Galveston and Houston dominating the news about Ike, I thought you guys might want to see some photos from Orange County (Orange/Bridge City) where they got the worst of the storm surge: KOGT Photo Gallery- powered by SmugMug

Thanks for posting these jread. I was so frustrated yesterday watching the news reports with only Htown, Galveston & the greater Clear Lake area covered (because the Geraldo wannabe tv yackers happened to be stationed there).

Anyone with a knowledge of Hurricanes would know that the Bolivar Peninsula & Golden Triangle area would have taken the brunt of the storm (being NE of the eye)...but there wasn't any media over there to cover it.

What town is (was) the Domino's & WalMart located in? (Bridge City?)

Also, anyone have pictures (or links) of Crystal Beach, Sabine Pass or other little towns on the coast east of Galveston?

I found some of west island beaches...these are primarily burmuda beach...
Amazing. even homes that are standing and would appear to be ok from a fly by...you can see the pilings are damaged and the house will have to bulldozed.

A Coast Guard Copter's video of Bolivar Peninusla (primarily Crystal Beach). About 20 miles N/E of downtown Galveston & probably where the the surge was at it's hight.

YouTube - 129th Rescue Wing crews survey Hurricane Ike damage (Part 2)

Note: the only way out of this area was NE towards Beaumont & was evidently cut off early in the morning (14- 16 hours before the Hurricane came through) which was the cause of so many of the high risk evacuations. In other words, many folks WERE trying to get out....they just didn't move quick enough. (this isn't being reported by any newscast I've seen...even when the Coast Guard tries to "splain" it to them...the national media doesn't get it....don't even understand where Bolivar is)....these dudes really ought to look at a map occasionally instead of always following their GPS.

& this was the only video i found concerning West Beach (Jamaica, Pirate's etc.) Not as good a video because it appears to be a plane flyover & not a copter flyover.

I feel for those people. Things won't be the same for a very long time :-(

Just wondering if noone shutters up or boards their windows anymore? Clearly the devastation was worse that just windows breaking, but I noticed few had their windows shuttered. I have a friend whose nice lives in the Khema area. They just left - the big trees surrounding their house fell away from the house thank goodness but many of the windows broke and let in huge amounts of water. They would have come back to an intact house w/minimal damage and clean up (they may not have even had to file for insurance) if they would have boarded up those windows.
