Question Whose economy is better: Houston or DFW?

Just spoke with a cousin from DFW who swears their economy is so much better than Houston's right now. True or is she just trying to lead me astray (and to DFW)?
Whose economy is better now: Houston or Dallas'?

As of right now, I'd have to say DFW hands down. Houston's economy over the short term is going to be in shambles due to Hurricane Ike.

I don't think so. Any problem is going to be a temporary blip. Western areas of Houston are back to work today, and the rest will follow within a week or two.

I don't know why someone would say DFW economy is better "hands down." Whatever. I've seen numbers, and they're pretty similar. Certainly both are better right now than most of the rest of the country (and even Texas), so who really cares? Sounds like DFW snobbery/ignorance if you ask me.

Did you not see where I said "as of right now" and "over the short term?" Someone's touchy. Does Houston have a serious inferiority complex or something?

Uh, I guess if you consider the "short-term" to be two weeks or so. But I'm thinking the person looking for a job would expect the search to take a little longer than that. A complex? Right... Get over yourself!

Sorry, but that was quite rude considering the circumstances, don't you think?

They're about the same. There was a recent article in the Business Journal that had them both at the top. So if someone said the Dallas economy was "so much better" I think they are probably misinformed.

On the news this morning, in no particular order of who was better, there was a report that said Dallas, Houston, and a 3rd city (Austin or San Antonio, don't remember which) had the best economy of the whole State, and I believe in the U.S Currently.

Houston and DFW are both experiencing booms....in terms of job growth Houston is #1....and pretty much every major business publication has been praising Houston. DFW hasnt been getting the same media attention as Houston....maybe due to the energy industry booming in Houston. Both cities are doing very well. Some analyst say that Houston will sustain this growth for the next 10 to 15 years. And today Houstons economy is much more diversified than what most people will have you believe.
