Smile Hello newbie here!

Hello everyone, we are an English married couple in our 40s and we have friends in Runge (San Antonio area?) and wanted to know if anyone knew of any house rental agencies or private rentals in the area as we are interested in coming over for a few months to rent with a view to buying. We ideally would like to be in the Runge area or not too far away.

We would also have our cat and dog with us so ideally pet friendly rentals/lets. Thanks a lot.

Welcome to the Texas board, Clickman.

I'm not familiar with Runge, but it appears to be a VERY small town half way between San Antonio & Victoria (a large & small city). It's in a small county which is a nice, rural, very low cost (i would believe) area.

In rural areas, the county seat is the place to start as far as homes/rentals/info & "things to do". Runge is in Karnes Co. & the county seat is Karnes City.....both are pretty "podunk"y.

If it was me, i'd also check out Cuero (40 miles away) & Floresville (1/2 way between Runge & SA & also about 40 miles away) for nicer towns which are also county seats. Or if rural Texas doesn't do it for you....there's San Antonio.

I'd google Cuero, Karnes City, Floresville for chamber of commerces & also post on the SA board here. You also might want to order the Texas Travel Guide.....which will provide ALOT of background info & maps etc.

Are you bringing kids with you?

Good luck!

Clickman, Welcome to Texas! You're a brave one to consider the plunge into what I would view as the border of remote Texas. Residents of South Texas may not agree but that's why we call it South Texas.

I did some web searching and came up with a few links that look worthy.

Texas Escapes has some brief info on Runge as well as the Handbook of Texas. Neither gives me a hankering to look further.

Finally, Texas dot com has some usable info on Runge, including some real estate links. It appears the real estate is in other towns.

My observation is that Runge is at the intersection of two state highways, neither of which goes anywhere and is about twenty miles off a U.S. highway between San Antonio and Corpus Christi.

The weather would be pretty warm (hot) in the summer and not too cool in the winter, with year round humidity. The terrain will be relatively flat and mostly brush.

Again, it's brave of you to want to jump down there, wishing you the best.
