Default Ike evacuees kicked out of hotels in College Station

Texas A&M fans dislodge evacuees from hotels | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Texas Regional News

Hotels in College Station had to kick out Hurricane Ike evacuees because A&M grads were coming in and had reservations for the game today. This is just not right. I'm sorry but most of these people going there for the game could go down for just the game and drive back home afterwards.

As an A&M grad who lived in CS for 6.5 years, I can safely say this is no surprise. Didn't you know A&M football is a religion up there?

Yea, my bil is there today. I'm sure he is one that did not give up his lodging.

I never understood that. A&M football being a religion is akin to Jesus Christ coming back from the dead, telling the world "Just kidding, I am not the son of God", then continuing to be Christian.

It's quite nauseating so say the least.

The attorney general stated though that the hotels have a right to uphold reservation contracts. Of course, you'd think A & M people wouldn't be so self-centered and shallow. Obviously, they are just that.

Not only do they have the right to uphold the reservations, but if they are part of most franchises, they are obligated to keep the reservations. In such hotels, if a guest has a guaranteed reservation and the hotel doesn't not have a room, then they have to "walk" the guest to another comparable hotel. 1) Other hotels will be full as well and 2) if walking a guest, the hotel has to pay the room and tax at the other hotel. So they would be getting revenue from the Ike guest, but paying out for the guest with the reservation, thus ending up at about $0 or less based upon rate difference... then losing money due to housekeeping costs the next day.

I know the posts are not blaming the hotels, but rather the fans... I just wanted to point out why the hotels may be making this choice when the management and staff would prefer not to do so.

Is it irony that the Miami Hurricanes were playing Texas A&M? What are the odds? Think about this.

As a Texas A&M alumnus who watched the game on television from 800 miles away, I suspect a fair number of the grads who went to College Station for the game now wish they had stayed elsewhere (41-23 and it was actually uglier than that).
