I work in Cleburne, don't worry about me I'll be ok. Its not as bad as these threads make it out to be. Some areas are better than the others but if you are looking for acreage you likely won't be looking in town anyway. With that said, I still would advise looking at Joshua first then Grandview, and then maybe Cleburne. I wouldn't go to Keene unless your ok with living w/ Adventists.

I guess there could be water moccasins in the ponds and lakes in the area. I saw one when I was a kid but it was in Wise county just north of Fort Worth. It was swimming across a very narrow finger of a small lake. I didn't go mess with it. I lived near there in the country on two acres w/ two ponds. I never saw water moccasins on them though.

Hey ya'll, I lived 1/2 mile outside of Keene for 10 years, east of Keene on a county road. I found 2 snakes in my yard during that time but I'm not sure what they were. I ran like the dickens to get some one to get rid of them but by the time we returned they were gone, not sure what kind they were.
I loved living there, shopped in Keene, Joshua, Cleburne, Burleson, Alvarado, Fort Worth, etc... I thought all the little towns around there were great as was Fort Worth and Keene. Say, and what's this about the seventh day adventists? All my neighbors, I believe, were adventists and I never had better neighbors. Oh, sure they weren't all perfect but they seemed like pretty nice people.

Interesting thread. I lived in Grandview for a couple of years - 2002-04 - never felt really comfy there. Not a native, not a regular, just an outsider. Then I moved to Alvarado in December 04 cause I didn't want to move to Flada. While I'm comfy here, I'm still an outsider. Don't know a lot of folks, but enough to get help if'n I should need any.

I live on the south end of town, in the low-rent district, lots of all races, all friendly with a wave or a nod, no problems. A few druggies running loose, but the neighborhood is keeping a close eye on them. Doesn't help that the high school racers blow through after school, lotsa little kids around, and they don't handle vehicles very well.

Shop in Cleburne quite a bit. I think Cleburne is kinda a crossroads of sorts, lotsa drilling going on in the area. I go through Joshua on occasion and while it's a nice lil town, it, like Alvarado, Keene, Venus, and even Grandview are becoming bedroom communities for the metroplex. Heck, the north end of Alvarado is turning into a motel complex at the corner of US 67 and I-35W.

And the traffic on 67 is getting atrocious. Oh, wayel...

Hi all, glad to see someone discussing Johnson county again as I am also interested in the area. I might move down there someday. Right now I work in Cleburne but live in Cedar Hill and the drive is long and getting more crowded everyday. I concur Delta Planner, I used to work in Alvarado and got to know a few locals, many good people there. Don't understand the problem with the school kids lately, I always heard it was a good school system up till recently. It's kind of like Venus now, The people I work with in Cleburne are also decent and good people I must be missing the weird places the posters were talking about. To me it seems like an industrious working town, sorta gritty, blue collar type on the east side with old money on the west side of town and then the newer commuting population added. But what do I know. The better schools tend to be on the west side as well from what I've heard too, like Coleman and Gerard Elementary. alamocitygirl I agree with you on the Adventists, they seem like decent people to me too.

My mother & father were born & raised in Cleburne & so were my mom's parents. My Grandmother still lives there to this day on the land my Grandpa was born on... It's a nice town to live in lots of history & I have recently moved there with my four young kids... I really like the schools all the teachers seem very concerned about helping the children get educations... I lived in Alvarado for 6 years before moving to Galveston & although I wasn't raised there I will always think of it as my home... The people are friendly & the cops are always willing to help out... Schools are really good too... My 3 nieces & nephew graduated from there.... All college students now...

However it is Johnson County and they have a very low tollerance for crime... And Alvarado has a very low tollerance for speeders so slow down....

I drive thur Keene alot it's a nice little sleepy town! And Joshua is nice too...
