My great grandmothers were:
Mawmaw Penny My grandparents were: Mama Nanny Mama Grandad and Nanny unkin Grandad unkin I'm guessing the "mama" and "unkin" part were to differentiate them as we were ALL together a lot. The "unkin" was part of their last name that I could not say well as a small child and IT STUCK. Took me YEARS to realize me saying that was MY LAST NAME - duh. My parents are: Nana Grandad My inlaws: Granny Papa (now deceased) They picked these names and INSISTED the kids call them that. |

Was supposed to be Pappie but I said it wrong and now the baby knows him as Poppie! Baby knows the other set of grandparents as Papaw and Meemaw. Aunt is Mimi (meemee). |

Mom's parents: Maw-Maw and Paw-Paw.
Dad's parents: Nana and Paw-Paw. Somebody recently asked me "You called both of your Grandfathers Paw-Paw? How did you know the difference?" I said by last name of course. Duh! One of my cousin's other grandparents are Mimi and Popo. Then one of my friend's has Geeko and Paw-Paw. My best friend's parents are Mammaw and Pappaw. Those are the only ones I can think of! |

My grandfather I called Pops...never knew another others...
My mom was called a variety of names depending on the ages of the kids--at one point it was Granny Hot-Hot because she smoked and would point to her cigarette and tell them "HOT"... My dad was Paw-Paw Jimmy and my husband's dad was PawPaw Walt while he was alive... My husband's mom picked Mam-Maw for herself and her daughter who is older than her brother/my husband was called Granny by her grandchildren who are the same ages as my kids... Her husband was called Pepper by the grandkids -- don't know why--maybe because his hair was salt and pepper...his real name is Robert LaKirkus B------ and goes by Kirk... I have a friend with 3 adult children all of whom have children--she is called Grandmother--very proper-sounding which kind of fits her fairly traditional behavior... I think Poppa sounds great for a grandpa but my husband says it is a little to wussy... my grandkids can call me by my name... |

That remimded me of some of the other names we have. My paternal grandma is also called Grandma Basket by one of my cousin's kids because she couldn't pronounce her last name when she was younger. I think she still calls her that. This girl also calls my aunt (her grandma) Grandma office because when she was little her mom would take her to visit my aunt at work and say "Let's go to grandma's office".
