Me, too, case, I'm half German! Speaking of the real one in Munich that Lakewooder mentioned, I have a cousin in Germany who attended it when she was younger. I've never been to one, though, except the one at the fair, I don't know why. Southlake has one, I think it was last weekend.

You are kidding me, aren't you?? If you've simply had a bad time, I'm sorry, but how can Fredericksburg possibly have a lame Oktoberfest?? That's just not possible.

I'll have to look the Southlake one up if it's still going on. At least, I hope it is.

Nope not kidding. All beer stands and sausage stands in the square. That was the whole thing. They had a few merchants and a few kiddie face painters but I was expecting A LOT more.

Much better just to go on a vineyard tour of the area and enjoy the fall air.

It's been a few years, but I also used to enjoy Chilispiel in Flatonia (normally the 3rd weekend in Oct.)

Here's the link to Wurstfest (which begins Fri - 10/31).

Welcome to Wurstfest

To avoid the crowds & drunks we go on the first or second Sunday (early in the day & leave we usually leave before it gets dark).....or we go on M, Tue or Wed. night. (which ironically are the dates that the COUPON on the link is good for). Getting there early on a Sunday (noonish) also allows us to park FREE in Landa Park near the railroad station (before the crowds get there).

And to anyone living in SA, Houston or Austin (or in between), I highly recommend Saturday at Chlispiel (sp?) in Flatonia. It's a great small town festival that isn't crazy crowded & the whole family can enjoy.

Get there early (10-11amish) & sample all the chili that folks are cooking up. Also there's ompha bands, cheap beer & food & carny rides for the kiddos. I'm going to be there this coming Saturday. Link below:

I also stopped by the Fburg "Octoberfest" festival a few years ago & was underwhelmed.

Pales in comparison to Wurstfest in NB which is an EVENT.

Yeah, I concur about the FB Oktoberfest... it's OK, but smaller than you'd expect. Wurstfest, on the other hand, is much larger than I'd expect -- plus they have that oh-so-German giant beer hall with all the open tables, music and dancing. FB needs one of those big Hoffbrau haus-type beer halls to compete.

Agreed.

One final fyi on Wurstfest. Normally i wouldn't recommend a Friday....but the first friday might be a good day to attend.

- Free to get in if you get there before 7pm.
- It's Halloween, so many will be occupied elsewhere.
- Both NBHS & NB Canyon Football teams have home games that night.

& i mentioned parking in landa park next to the train station....i meant the "minature train station"....or even further away in the park itself (a nice 200-400 yard walk to the WurstHall thru the park).
