Hi, everybody, once again. I wanted to get the computer campfire cranked up again because I'd like to embark on something that I've been wanting to do for years, but just haven't. There's an event every October called Oktoberfest, and I'm sure many of you folks have been involved in this or have participated in this at one time or another. We have a rich German heritage in our state (and there actually is some German in my blood
![]() ), and we have many such celebrations with fantastic German food, culture, and music. These things are going on all over the place this month (being October and all), so what I want to hear from you is on whether you're planning to go or not, and if you're going, where will you go to celebrate?? If the thread lasts past November, that's okay --- we can still hit the highlights. I'm also including a poll for an extremely limited amount of time, and it asks if you'll be going. Here we go, gang. Oktoberfest. Are you, aren't you, and where?? Find out right here. Let 'er rip! Should be a dandy thread for the time of year. ![]() |

Wurstfest in New Braunfels....every year. (which technically takes place the last weekend in Oct. & the first week of Nov.). I ALWAYS enjoy on the middle Sun - Wed (one of those days).
It's been a few years, but I also used to enjoy Chilispiel in Flatonia (normally the 3rd weekend in Oct.) |

I wish I was going - I've been to the Wurstfest in New Braunfels a long time ago, it was a lot of fun!

Wurstfest is best!
Seriously though, I have been to the real Oktoberfest in Munich a couple of times and the State Fair of Texas is really a better event. Unless you like getting really drunk - but making friends with everyone at your table is fun, too! State Fair has the Hans Mueller tent (north end of Hall of State) which will do in a pinch and seems a lot more authentic than the thing they have in Addison. |

Anything down south, say Cleburne, Waco, Hillsboro?

I've been wanting to check out the one in Addison, since it is closeby for me. But don't they do one in Muenster every year?

Lancaster is holding its annual Oktoberfest celebration on October 10th & 11th. I'm not sure if I will be able to attend, however.

I think this year we will go to the one in Walburg (since it's closer). It's a family tradition on my moms side of the family to do the one in New Braunfels. My great grandfather was in an oompa band (played the trombone) when he was young (he's long, long since passed away
) and they played there a very long time ago so I guess that's how the tradition for us started. |

The one in Fredricksburg was a total wash and waste of time.
