My kids claim to be Texans although they weren't born here, but we moved here when they were ages 5 years and 2 years. You can't blame a child where he or she was born. I really think a lot of what a person claims to be is where he or she was raised, not born, but that's just my opinion. Then again, that's not always the case as I know many natives who don't really consider themselves Texans, per se. Why, I haven't clue and I'm not asking.

Can I just say "God bless the Texans"? I know I am not from Texas but I want to experience that feeling of saying that I am and that I am proud of it. You will have to forgive me because I am extremely infatuated with Dallas.

I think that's very nice. I'll bet you can't wait for 2010. Whenever one decides they want to live elsewhere, even a few years seems like an eternity away.

Aw boy, it really does feel like an eternity away. After visiting Dallas for the summer, I knew it, my parent's knew it, teachers knew it and God knew that I will be moving to Texas. And it's half way through 2010 too (August). But I will enjoy my time in Oklahoma with my parents and appreciate them, because this is where it will all start for me. (about 1 year, 10 months, and counting)

Ha. Look at me. I moved to Texas about 5 days ago. My wife is born and raised Texan but been away 15 years. She tells me being a Texan is a state of mind. Has nothing to do with time served.

One thing is for sure. Texans are proud. I lived in many places but I never seen what I see here. Where ever you see a United States flag hanging, you can be sure there is a Texas state flag flying below it. I never seen so many people wearing a shirt depicting some sort of Texas thing, so much more so then any other state.

You see signs saying not to litter but in Texas it is always "Dont mess with Texas" or you'll pay $$ fine. Oh and high school sports rivalries? Wow? Strangers judge you on what school your kids go to. Complete strangers will wave to you.

Near where Im staying now, just today I was waiting in the parking lot for my wife to pick up a few things at the store. Im watching people come out of the store and just open their car door. No one but no one locked their car doors. That is insane. Maybe too much trust in their fellow man?

I love it here.

I am going to have a hard time learning to say "Ya'all".

"Im sure its common for someone young or maybe from the mid-west...
But probably next to never for someone from Chicago or NY.
I havent lived in Texas for a while.Do the transplants outnumber natives..
In many places?"

What are you talking about? Midwestern places like Chicago are one of the prime places people are moving to Texas from because of their failing rust-belt economy. I have met hundreds of people from Chicago and New York here. Better economy/high paying jobs/lower cost of living/ no state income tax----> people moving here.

California is probably the biggest place they come from though, at least to Houston and Austin.

You're not one of the typical social conservative types from Oklahoma are you? Dallas proper is very liberal and might turn you off, so check your republicanism at the door!
